 I've had this idea for a long time. I wanted to photograph an engaged couple in the snow. It was sunny which was different than I imagined it but it was still beautiful and fun. Chris and Julia were awesome models for me! It really didn't feel uncomfortably cold but it was cold enough that these two had to cuddle to stay warm. I loved the governor's mansion in the snow. It was really beautiful and scenic and made the perfect backdrop for their session. Yes, there was  a lot snow and there were several people out sledding. They probably looked at us like we were insane but it was definitely memorable and fun. Here's a few we selected from the session to showcase here on our blog.  Yesterday was amazing. We spent time at the captial building in Topeka and also at the governor's mansion. I did not expect the capital building to have so many possibilites but it was incredible. We've shot there before but yesterday I just felt that there were so many amazing locations and textures and compositions that we just shooting and shooting. I loved hanging out with Camri and Jordan. Two incredibly good looking people who were so fun to pose and photograph. It was really chilly so having them cuddle was good and it made for great images.  I REALLY enjoyed our session with Kamree. Kamree is such an adorable little girl! We photographed her when she was itty bitty and now she's about to turn one so we smashed a cake! It was so much fun. She loved it! She ate almost the whole thing and it only took seconds for her to go to town on it. LOL. There were so many good shots from this session but I had to narrow it down. Here's a few of our favorites from the session.  This is adorable! T.H. Peterson Photography  Last night we went out to have fun and do a nighttime shoot in Lawrence, preferably somewhere downtown on Mass St or somewhere close to really get some of the lights in the background. However, as we were getting started a few snowflakes hit us in the face. My first reaction was that our shoot was going to be ruined, however as any photographer knows, photography is a game of problem solving. After a few minutes we figured out exactly what to do to make the snow actually work in our favor. The cool thing is I've always wanted to photograph people in the snow but it's such an unpredictable thing that in 13 years of shooting we've never done it! Can you believe this is the first time?! Pretty unbelievable. I have a new interest! Shooting in the snow! It was a lot of fun, yes my thumbs and toes froze but looking back at these, it was totally worth it!  Samantha was a trooper.  One of the joys of my job is photographing young couples in love. I LOVE engagement sessions. The body language and the mood you see from these couples is always romantic and attempting to portray that in the photos themselves can be a challenge but not with an engaged couple. I never have to tell them to get close and love on each other. I'm just there to capture their affection and admiration of each other. It's amazing and it's one of my most favorite aspects of my job. This morning it was a little cold and we had a super fun session with Kelsey and Broc. Getting them to cuddle was easy with the weather as nippy as it was but I bet they loved it!  Another amazing shoot with Philip and Alexandra from Lenz Photography . This time we went down to Old Prarie Town in Topeka. I'll be honest. I don't normally shoot in places like this mainly because they're over done. They really are. But with a new fresh set of eyes, I decided to head down there and see what we could do differently. I'm sure this place has been used thousands and thousands of times. But most likely never like we used it. We shot there at night and the results I must say were phenomenal. AND FUN!!!! It really was an experience for the kids as well as ourselves. We then headed to downtown Topeka for some fun urban sport shots at night, using external flashes and street lights. It was awesome. We really can shoot ANYTIME of the day or night. We have light, we have photography. Anyway, enjoy, we enjoyed this session so much!
