For those who know me, I loooooovvvvve emotional portraits. I feel that textures are great ways to convey this! Recently, we took Mo out for a photoshoot in Burlingame. That town has very cool old buildings and textures to be found. Here are some of our favorite shots from that day!
Grace and Andrew’s wedding at the Lincoln Event Center in Ottawa, Kansas, was absolutely beautiful! The day was hot and sunny, but we made the most of it and captured some gorgeous photos before the ceremony with the bridal party. The Lincoln Event Center, a charming old post office that’s been remodeled into a stunning venue, was the perfect backdrop for their big day. Grace and Andrew looked so happy, and every detail came together wonderfully. The celebration that followed was full of joy, laughter, and plenty of dancing! Guests enjoyed an amazing Mexican meal that was authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable. The energy on the dance floor was contagious as everyone came together to celebrate Grace and Andrew’s love. It was a day full of happy memories and beautiful moments that they’ll cherish forever. Now for the fun part! A beautiful slideshow that highlights awesome memories and moments from the day!
Baby Reese Jentry came to the studio for her session, and she was absolutely perfect! Mom and Dad brought along Dad’s Army uniform, and we were able to include it in some of her photos, which made the session so special and meaningful. It was such a beautiful way to honor his service and create a memory they’ll cherish forever. Reese was surrounded by so much love from Mom, Dad, and her two big brothers. They were all so smitten with her, and it was heartwarming to see how much she is already adored. We captured some amazing images of the whole family together, as well as some of Reese all by herself. I just love how her photos turned out — so sweet and full of love! T.H. Peterson: How did you come up with her name? Chelsea: They were the first two names we agreed on early in the pregnancy, and the middle name is also after her grandmother. T.H. P: What is the first thing you thought when you saw her? Chelsea: We thought that she was more perfect than we ever could have imagined. T...
I had such a great time photographing Higgins, a senior from Washburn Rural High School. He’s such a cool guy with tons of confidence and personality, which really came through in his photos. We started his session in front of the Federal Home Loan Bank — a spot I’d never shot at before — and I was blown away by the beautiful architecture and landscaping. It was the perfect backdrop for his dressy outfit and set the tone for some really sharp, classy images. After that, we headed to Cypress Ridge Golf Course to showcase Higgins’ passion for golf. The weather couldn’t have been better, and we captured some truly stunning shots of him out on the course. We wrapped up the evening at Kaw River Park just as the sun was setting over the water, giving us the most perfect, glowing images to end the session. Higgins is such a kind, easygoing guy, and his family was just as wonderful. Overall, it was an amazing experience with a fantastic senior! T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high s...
A few weeks ago I had the privilege of photographing MaKayla from Silver Lake during an early morning sunrise session at her school. We started on the softball field, and the sky put on the most colorful display — pinks, oranges, and purples that made the perfect backdrop for her softball photos. You could clearly see how much she loves the sport in every shot, and the sunrise made the whole scene feel really special. After we finished on the field, we headed inside the school to capture some awesome wrestling photos. Even though MaKayla recently injured her thumb, she didn’t let that slow her down one bit. She showed so much strength and determination, and it was inspiring to see her passion for both sports come through in her photos. It was truly an amazing session from start to finish! T.H. Peterson: What are you up to this summer? MaKayla: Lots of softball and hanging out with friends and family! T.H. P: What classes are you looking forward to most your senior year? MaKayla:...
Zach’s senior session was absolutely killer! We started downtown and then finished at Kaw River Park just as the sun was setting, and the lighting could not have been more perfect. Zach brought his guitar along, and it was easy to see how passionate he is about playing. He’s completely self-taught and doesn’t even read sheet music — just plays by ear and feeling. That made his session feel so personal and unique, and it really showed off his talent and personality. Zach is such a fast learner and such a nice guy. He made the whole session fun and easy, and his great attitude really shined through in every photo. I know he will go far in life because of how hard he works and how much he cares about what he does. It was a joy to photograph him and capture this exciting moment in his life! T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school? Zach: I enjoy music and want to ideally be a session musician T.H. P: How long have you played guitar? Zach: 4 years T.H. P: Favorite song cur...
Meet sweet baby Kinsley! She came to our studio for her newborn session, and what a beautiful baby she is. Kinsley had the most expressive little face—we saw so many emotions and adorable looks from her during the session. She even gave us the tiniest little smile, and it melted our hearts. Her mom, Riley, couldn't stop talking about how special she is, and we could definitely see why. Kinsley is not only beautiful, but also full of personality already! Kinsley was such a dream to photograph. She was calm, cooperative, and happy to pose for us. Because she was so easygoing, we were able to try lots of different setups and ended up with more photos than we usually get at a newborn session! She truly was the perfect little model. We had a great time capturing these sweet memories for Riley, and we feel so lucky to have spent time with such a precious baby girl. T.H. Peterson: How did you come up with Kinsley's name? Riley: We always knew that we wanted to pass down her mid...
I had such a great time photographing Preston downtown on the 4th of July! He wanted to show off his patriotism, and he really brought the spirit with red, white, and blue clothes, an American flag, and some colorful smoke bombs. Even though it was the middle of the day and pretty warm, he had such a good attitude the whole time. His great smile and fun personality made the session really enjoyable. Preston is an athlete too, but we decided to save that part of his story for another session. This time was all about celebrating the holiday and capturing his love for his country. He was so much fun to hang out with, and we got some really awesome shots. Here are a few of our favorites from his session! T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school? Preston: College. Currently trying to decide between Washburn and Baker University. T.H. P: What is your dream job? Preston: Helping kids with special needs. T.H. P: Something you liked about your session with us? Preston: You...
Isaac’s senior session was such a fun one! We started at the baseball field at Washburn Rural, where his love for the game really stood out. He lit up talking about it, and you could tell it’s a big part of who he is. Isaac was so personable and easy to talk to—he had a great smile and was just a genuinely nice guy. The conversation flowed naturally, and I felt totally at ease around him. After the field, we headed to Clarion Woods for some nature shots, and then finished the evening at B&B Theatres just as the sun went down. That spot was perfect—the background lights made for some beautiful and unique photos to end the session. Isaac’s energy and kindness made the whole shoot feel relaxed and enjoyable. I’m excited for what’s ahead for him! T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school? Isaac: I’m planning to go to college to play baseball and earn a degree in healthcare. T.H. P.: What classes are you glad to be done with? Isaac: Physics ...
Meet sweet little Lyncoln! This adorable baby girl has so much personality already, and it was such a joy to photograph her. Mom and Dad were absolutely glowing with happiness as they cuddled her close. Dad especially couldn’t stop gushing over how perfect she is — it was so special to see how much love they have for her. Lyncoln was a little fussy at first, but she quickly settled and gave us some precious moments to capture. We love all the photos from her session, but here are just a few of our favorites. She is such a beautiful baby, and we feel so honored to help her family remember this sweet season of life! T.H. Peterson: How did you come up with Lyncoln's name? Bailee: We wanted to stick with a college city theme and one that meant something to us as well. Dad was born in Lincoln so we went with it! T.H. P: What did you think when you first saw her? Bailee: We thought she was perfect and just what was needed to complete our family. T.H. P: Something you liked about yo...
Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind. Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day). Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain. If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session. This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session. If it is windy, wear your hair up. Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane! Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session. For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...
