Brynlee's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Newborn Photographer

Brynnlee is such a cute little sweetheart and she did an amazing job with us for her newborn session!  She and her older brother and their mom came in to our studio and Brynnlee was cute as cute as a button and such a little angel!  She looked so cute in her little purple hat, and when we had her in the tan swaddle with the basket, it melted our hearts! She did a great job with keeping her hands out during the swaddle and we even got some of her barely wrapped, showing her tiny little features.  We love seeing the connection between mom and daughter, and we just know Brynnlee is going to be well-loved by her big brother, Slade. He liked seeing us posing her in the moon! We love this cute little darling’s shoot and so will you!
T.H. Peterson:   How did you find out you were pregnant with Brynnlee? 
Brynnlee:  I had a strong feeling for a few weeks. When the time was right, I took a test and it came back positive.
T.H. P.:   What are some foods you craved during your pregnancy and what are some foods you avoided? 
Brynnlee:  I loved Mexican food and all things sweets. There wasn’t much I avoided besides avocados and broccoli. Both of those gave me severe heartburn.
T.H. P.:  How would you describe your pregnancy and labor and delivery?  Any surprises or complications? 
Brynnlee:  There were some small hiccups along the way with my pregnancy, but overall it was pretty smooth. Brynnlee moved a lot more than her big brother so I’d have to say I was a lot more uncomfortable during the end of it. Delivery went well, I was a repeat c section and I had the best doctor, anesthesiologist, and nurses. Recovery was harder this time, but I expected that with a toddler at home.
 T.H. P.:  How is Slade adjusting to being a big brother? 
Brynnlee:  Slade is an observer, so he sat back and just looked at first. Every day he is getting better with her. He has yet to want to hold her but he will give her smoochies and tell her she is cute! He loves to look at her little features and tell us how small she is.
T.H. P.:   Did you do a gender reveal or baby shower?
Brynnlee:  I didn’t do a gender reveal or baby shower. I did do the early testing to see what gender the baby was. They gave me the call when my husband was out of town for work. It was exciting being the one held the big news and tell him the gender. We would have been happy with either, but I was so happy to have my boy and now my sweet girl.

I was so excited to photograph Austin for his senior session! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing him and his family for many years, and it was such a joy to see him step into this milestone. Just like his older brother and sister, we started on the family property, capturing beautiful images by the pond and around the barns. Austin is incredibly photogenic, and his easygoing personality made every shot feel natural. I especially loved the sunrise photos at the pond—the light coming over the trees created such a magical, peaceful mood that really made the session stand out. We also made sure to capture Austin doing what he loves, so we headed to his football and baseball fields at school. Rory is such a beautiful baby, and we’ve had the joy of photographing her family many times. She came in with her eyes wide open and gave us the cutest expressions from the very beginning. She was calm, curious, and so easy to work with. Her mom, dad, and big sister adore her, and you could feel all that love in the room. Babies grow so quickly, and being able to capture these tiny details and sweet moments felt really special. We also got some of the sweetest photos of Rory with her big sister, Ari. Interview with Cash Bowlby - Topeka High Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing Cash, a senior at Topeka High. We met in front of the school and started his session with some dramatic shots in front of the building, as well as some really cool photos with the Trojan statue. Cash is part of the Drumline, and you can see his confidence and personality in every photo. I especially loved the awesome track suits that the drumline gets to use. It inspired me to make some like that for our business! He’s very photogenic and personable, and we had a lot of fun capturing his session. His mom was there, too, and she was a blast to hang out with. Some of the highlights from Cash’s session were the amazing fall colors—we were lucky to catch the peak of the foliage. Malaki's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Baby Malakai was an absolute dream during his session. At just two weeks old, he showed up with a full head of hair, the cutest little expressions, and the most chill personality. He let us pose him in all the sweetest setups, and every time he relaxed into a new pose, it just made all of us smile. Hanging out with him and his parents made the whole session feel easy, calm, and really special. Mom and Dad were fully in love, and it showed the entire time. They were just gushing over every tiny stretch, yawn, and smirk he made. Watching their excitement as we captured these moments was one of my favorite parts of the day. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

I had the chance to photograph Ayden, a Washburn Rural senior, and even though this was a shorter session than usual, we captured some truly amazing images. We started at Washburn Rural, where we highlighted his passion for football. Ayden was relaxed, easygoing, and brought a great smile to every shot. Right from the beginning, it felt like everything came together naturally. After that, we headed downtown to one of my favorite grungy spots, and Ayden was up for anything. Abby and Tanner’s celebration at Reynolds Lodge was such a beautiful day. Even though they were already married in Tennessee, it was clear how much it meant to them to gather everyone here in Kansas for a special reception. We truly hit the peak of fall—those bright red trees behind the family photos were unbelievable. The whole place felt warm, colorful, and full of joy. Their friends and family were so happy for them, and you could just feel that everyone was excited to finally celebrate the newlyweds together. The reception itself was so much fun. Once the DJ started playing, the dance floor never slowed down—everyone was laughing, dancing, and having the best time. And the food… I seriously couldn’t believe it was all homemade. Little Chloe came into the studio at just three weeks old, and we were instantly smitten. She’s one of the tiniest newborns we’ve ever photographed, but wow—she came with a big dose of personality. With all that beautiful hair and her bright, expressive eyes, she kept us smiling from the very beginning. Mom and Dad are absolutely crazy about her, and it shows in every moment. Chloe made so many funny little faces that we couldn’t help but laugh right along with her. Toward the end of the session, she finally relaxed and drifted off to sleep, giving us the chance to capture those peaceful, dreamy shots everyone loves. Getting to photograph baby Blake was such a joy. I’ve worked with this sweet family before, and they are always so kind, relaxed, and incredibly photogenic.
