Interview with Skyler Tolin - Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits
Skylar’s senior session was an absolute blast! We headed downtown and made the most of a parking garage and the alleys behind it, and wow—what a perfect setting for her personality to shine. Skylar is such a sweet young lady, so smart and photogenic, and she brought her beautiful smile and infectious laugh to every shot. From the very beginning, we just clicked, and it made the whole session flow so naturally. She was completely engaged and excited about the process, which made capturing her true self so easy and so much fun!
We really wanted to highlight what she loves, so we focused on her sports—basketball and volleyball—and those images turned out stunning. And let’s talk about her hair for a second—it was like it had its own glam team! Every time the wind hit just right, it gave us those perfect fashion-shoot vibes, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Skylar, you crushed this session, and I can’t wait for you to see how amazing these photos turned out!
T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?
Skyler: My plans after high school are to tentatively attend Washburn. I am also trying to pursue volleyball at a college level and would like to go into the PTA world and pursue something involving sports.
T.H. P: What do you like most about being homeschooled?
Skyler: The thing I love most about being homeschooled is the fact that my schedule is so relaxed and I have much more freedom and I love my homeschool family and the community we’ve built.
Skyler: I would say my dream job would be an athletic trainer for some team. Like that goes with the team to all the different games and be their athletic trainer.
T.H. P: What is something you liked about your session with us?
Skyler: Something that I personally loved about the session was how fun and free everyone was. Just a joy to be around and it was just so fun but also professional.
T.H. P: Why would people be surprised to learn about you?
Skyler: Something that people are surprised about me is that I have a secret love for musicals and would definitely fit in if I was in a musical.
T.H. P: How would friends describe you?
Skyler: I asked one of my very close friends to help with this one and this is word for word what she said: “I would describe you as a really rare phenomenon that not that many people are blessed with. You’re a really genuine person. Like you’re super happy and strong but that’s not all you are, you’re relatable and easy to talk to because of the things that aren’t so easy. You make mistakes and you own it. You always want to learn and grow, I want to go through struggles with you, you really care about other people, and you’re definitely the kind of person I want in my life forever.”
T.H. P: What is your earliest memory playing sports?
Skyler: My earliest sports memory is when I played rec oh I don’t know 12 years ago lol and we would always have snacks after our Saturday morning games and that was my favorite part.
T.H. P: Have you ever hurt yourself playing a sport?
Skyler: Yes, I have hurt myself playing a sport before. I tore my ACL at the beginning of my sophomore year in basketball and had a complete reconstruction surgery and a long 10 months of recovery. It sucked but I really learned and grew from it.
T.H. P: The girliest and least girly thing about you?
Skyler: The girliest thing about me is probably that I do enjoy getting ready, getting all pretty for special occasions. Like prom is so fun for me because I’m always in athletic wear and sweating, and when I get to dress up it’s just so much fun and I really do enjoy it. The least girly thing about me is probably that I’m not a huge fan of heels. I’ve never really worn heels and I’m just not a huge fan of them.
T.H. P: Is there a singer or band that you are obsessed with? And what is your favorite song by them?
Skyler: I’d have to say my favorite singer/artist right now is Cody Johnson and I honestly don’t have a favorite song. I love all of his music and songs so much!
