Interview with Aurora Zwilling - SFT Class of 2021 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

One of the first things I noticed about Aurora was her beautiful sparkly eyes, when she and her mom came into the studio for a minisession. Her strawberry blonde hair made her blue/green eyes pop! She had some really cool artwork with her, she loves to watercolor. She is such an amazing and talented artist and we were able to capture that in her shoe. She started out shy, but it didn’t take long for her to warm up and really give us some good authentic smiles. I love how she brought accessories with her to personalize her shoot. I know it made her feel more comfortable that she was able to incorporate her personality into her pictures. What a sweet girl. Enjoy this session.

T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?

Aurora: I am planning on obtaining a pre-med degree in my ongoing quest to help people and have a stable job.

T.H. P.: So Covid has really turned upside down. How has it affected you and how do you think your generation overall is handling it?

Aurora: Well honestly, as well as we can. Who knows how our social habits will change in the coming years, but one things for certain. I'll be stopping the "we need a new plague" jokes.

T.H. P.: I loved your art work. How did you end up specializing in watercolor?

Aurora: I specialized in watercolor because I heard that that is what old-school comics were colored with. That and my gifted teacher did some and I was interested in something easier on my hands than coloured pencils.

T.H. P.: Who are some of your favorite artists?

Aurora: I follow a bunch of artists to keep the inspiration going, namely Danica Sills, Pui Illustrated, Babs Web, WLOP, tck_tck, and Margaret Moralles.

T.H. P.: What is your favorite thing about creating art?

Aurora: It's so great to get through some emotions. The more emotionally charged I am when I create something the more I like it. Still one of my favorite pieces came from one of my darkest moments.

T.H. P.:  What is something from your session you really enjoyed?

Aurora: The photographer was super nice. She was kind and really helped me feel less nervous. Plus I liked posing with my cloak.

T.H. P.: How would friends describe you?

Aurora: I honestly don't know. Probably caring and driven. I have been known to surprise them with baked goods and mother them a little.

T.H. P.: Last movie you saw and what did you think?

Aurora: Kong Skull Island Rise of the king it was surprisingly good. Thin on plot (like any good action flick) but gorgeous. The use of colour and lighting is incredible in that film like the first Pacific Rim.

T.H. P.: Best thing on Netflix?

Aurora: Hands down Violet Evergarden. It is the most beautiful anime I have ever seen with an amazing slow burn of a story.

T.H. P.:  Besides art, what else are you passionate about?

Aurora: So many things. Science (specifically space, natural disasters, and biology) and Music. I am obsessed with vocal music and I play an instrument in all of our High School's bands.

Reese Jentry's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Baby Reese Jentry came to the studio for her session, and she was absolutely perfect! Mom and Dad brought along Dad’s Army uniform, and we were able to include it in some of her photos, which made the session so special and meaningful. It was such a beautiful way to honor his service and create a memory they’ll cherish forever. Reese was surrounded by so much love from Mom, Dad, and her two big brothers. They were all so smitten with her, and it was heartwarming to see how much she is already adored. Interview with Higgins Hawks - Washburn Rural Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had such a great time photographing Higgins, a senior from Washburn Rural High School. He’s such a cool guy with tons of confidence and personality, which really came through in his photos. We started his session in front of the Federal Home Loan Bank — a spot I’d never shot at before — and I was blown away by the beautiful architecture and landscaping. It was the perfect backdrop for his dressy outfit and set the tone for some really sharp, classy images. After that, we headed to Cypress Ridge Golf Course to showcase Higgins’ passion for golf. The weather couldn’t have been better, and we captured some truly stunning shots of him out on the course. We wrapped up the evening at Kaw River Park just as the sun was setting over the water, giving us the most perfect, glowing images to end the session. Grace and Andrew's big day - The Lincoln Event Space - Ottawa, KS - Wedding

Grace and Andrew’s wedding at the Lincoln Event Center in Ottawa, Kansas, was absolutely beautiful! The day was hot and sunny, but we made the most of it and captured some gorgeous photos before the ceremony with the bridal party. The Lincoln Event Center, a charming old post office that’s been remodeled into a stunning venue, was the perfect backdrop for their big day. Grace and Andrew looked so happy, and every detail came together wonderfully. The celebration that followed was full of joy, laughter, and plenty of dancing! Guests enjoyed an amazing Mexican meal that was authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable. The energy on the dance floor was contagious as everyone came together to celebrate Grace and Andrew’s love. Interview with MaKayla Connor - Silver Lake Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

A few weeks ago I had the privilege of photographing MaKayla from Silver Lake during an early morning sunrise session at her school. We started on the softball field, and the sky put on the most colorful display — pinks, oranges, and purples that made the perfect backdrop for her softball photos. You could clearly see how much she loves the sport in every shot, and the sunrise made the whole scene feel really special. After we finished on the field, we headed inside the school to capture some awesome wrestling photos. Even though MaKayla recently injured her thumb, she didn’t let that slow her down one bit. Zach’s senior session was absolutely killer! We started downtown and then finished at Kaw River Park just as the sun was setting, and the lighting could not have been more perfect. Zach brought his guitar along, and it was easy to see how passionate he is about playing. He’s completely self-taught and doesn’t even read sheet music — just plays by ear and feeling. That made his session feel so personal and unique, and it really showed off his talent and personality. Zach is such a fast learner and such a nice guy. He made the whole session fun and easy, and his great attitude really shined through in every photo. I had such a great time photographing Preston downtown on the 4th of July! He wanted to show off his patriotism, and he really brought the spirit with red, white, and blue clothes, an American flag, and some colorful smoke bombs. Even though it was the middle of the day and pretty warm, he had such a good attitude the whole time. His great smile and fun personality made the session really enjoyable. Adrian is a senior at Topeka West, graduating with the Class of 2026. She’s been playing soccer since 3rd grade, and her love for the game really showed during her session. She’s confident, driven, and full of energy—and on top of that, incredibly photogenic with a beautiful, bright smile. We spent a lot of time focusing on her passion for soccer, and it was clear how much it means to her. At the end of the session, we headed out to the water at Shawnee Lake, just in time for the most incredible sunset. The sky lit up in a rich orange glow, giving us the perfect backdrop. Meet sweet baby Kinsley! She came to our studio for her newborn session, and what a beautiful baby she is. Kinsley had the most expressive little face—we saw so many emotions and adorable looks from her during the session. She even gave us the tiniest little smile, and it melted our hearts. Her mom, Riley, couldn't stop talking about how special she is, and we could definitely see why. Kinsley is not only beautiful, but also full of personality already! Meet sweet little Lyncoln! This adorable baby girl has so much personality already, and it was such a joy to photograph her.
