Get to know Gary and Apryl - Relationship Spotlight!

We are a photography blog HOWEVER I recently started interviewing couples about their relationship. This has been a fun and educational and heartwarming experience. Getting a small insight into other couples has been fun to see and I hope of some value to you, the reader. Today’s spotlight is Apryl and Gary. Enjoy!

T.H. Peterson: How long have you been married? Apryl: 48 years

T.H. Peterson: How did you meet?
Apryl: We had mutual friends.  


T.H. Peterson: What were your first impressions of each other?
Apryl: Love at first sight!!

T.H. Peterson: Describe your relationship in one word.
Apryl: Enduring




T.H. Peterson: What have been some of the best moments of your marriage?
Apryl: In 1972 we both came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and He changed our marriage and our lives.  The births of our daughters and grandchildren were precious moments in our marriage.  

T.H. Peterson: How have you learned to effectively resolve conflict?
Apryl: We try to always talk about our differences. 

T.H. Peterson: What are some things that have helped keep your relationship strong?
Apryl: The belief in and worship of Jesus Christ.


T.H. Peterson: What are some ways you are alike and different?
Apryl: Apryl is more outgoing than Gary.  We both value our family above any other earthly thing.

T.H. Peterson: Give one single piece of advice that others might benefit from. Apryl: Trust in the Lord and raise your children in the knowledge of Him.  Only God can call them to Himself but as parents we must point them to Him.

Popkess family at Ward Meade - Beautiful Spring Mini Session - Topeka's Best Family Photographers

We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. Sadly the tulips are all gone however the lush greenery made a perfect backdrop anywhere we posed this adorable family! How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

What a beautiful baby boy and it was great to have his whole family right there with him as we did this session. These are some of our favorites! Enjoy! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Diego? Destrie: I thought he was so cute and was also in total shock because I just had another baby! T.H. P.: How did you come up with his name? Destrie: I have always loved the name Diego, and so I knew when I had a second boy he would have that name. T.H. P.: What does big bro think? Destrie: His brother is in total awe of him. Always checking on him and making sure to say “what mister” anytime he cries.  T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us? What a handsome little guy! I loved photographing Declan and his session was just perfect! I especially loved capturing the details like his spikey hair. Totally adorable! Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. She is growing by leaps and bounds and I am so thankful to have her on our team! She's someone I always appreciate having around! What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. Cove's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. It was a lot of fun coming up with poses for her and getting detail shots and images of her with her brother and mom! These are just some of our favorites!! Thanks for checking out Cove's session. During our first moments together, she just stared at me and was so calm, I couldn’t have fallen more in love.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house? Sierra: It honestly has been a huge adjustment, but way smoother than I had imagined. Cash is 5 and he’s been super helpful and sweet
