Lainey's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

This was a very special session. Miss Lainey is so tiny and beautiful and her mommy and daddy are absolutely in love! She is so sweet. Mom and dad had a few ideas, including posing her with dad's BDUs from when he was in the Army. Those were really special. Here are a few of our favorites from the session!

T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Lainey?

Aubrey: How perfect and beautiful she was. That she is the final piece to our family. 

T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name?

Aubrey: We decided we wanted a Name that started L. Lainey’s dad would give lists of L names to me and I was never set on any of them. We almost decided to go with something different than L. I asked Chris his opinion of Lainey and he told me that he thought of that name recently but was done with getting turned down on all the lists of names he had came up with. That’s how we came up with Lainey. Jean is Lainey’s middle name and she gets that from her Mami (grandma) on her mother’s side. 

T.H. P.: Who does she look like?

Aubrey: Lainey is definitely a little version of her dad. But every once in a while I see some glimpse of me in her. 

T.H. P.: Describe her personality?

Aubrey: Lainey is a firecracker already! Definitely lets you know her opinion. She is a very fierce strong little love. 

T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us? Aubrey: We loved how laid back and relaxed it was! Lainey was is very good loving hands during her session. We loved the scenes chosen for her. Also the team took some very personal items to us and made some personal scenes for us.

Interview with Jahara - Topeka High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful senior named Jahara from Topeka High. We started her session in downtown Topeka and then headed to Ward Meade Park, which gave us the perfect mix of urban and natural backgrounds. Jahara looked stunning with her amazing makeup and radiant smile—she truly didn’t take a single bad photo! We had so much fun with her, laughing and chatting the whole time. Meet Warren, the sweetest little guy with the most relaxed personality. At almost a month old, he was happy, content, and an absolute dream to photograph. We captured some beautiful moments of him, both on his own and with his adoring parents, who couldn’t stop gushing over their precious boy. Britain’s senior session was extra special because it took place at Riverview Wedding Venue in Reading, KS —a place that means a lot to him. He has spent countless hours helping make Riverview beautiful, so it was the perfect setting to capture this milestone. Ava was absolutely beautiful for her senior portrait session! We had an amazing time capturing her both in the studio and outdoors, and every shot turned out stunning. One of the highlights of her session was getting to include her adorable big dog, Goose. He was such a sweetheart, and the photos of them together were just perfect! When we headed outside, it was freezing ! But Ava came prepared with her cowhide blanket, and let me tell you—it looked incredible. I even told her she looked like she just stepped out of a catalog! We had the pleasure of photographing Noah for his senior session in Manhattan. Originally from Oregon, he now calls Kansas home and attends Manhattan High. We started downtown, capturing shots in the alleys and urban spaces before heading to the scenic outlook near the interstate. The sunset painted a perfect backdrop, making for an unforgettable session on one of the nicest days of the year. Noah was fantastic to work with—relaxed, funny, quirky, and incredibly smart. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

I recently photographed a branding session with Andy McKee , an incredibly talented guitar player. I hate to just call him just a guitar player, he was very versatile with his playing... an amazing talent. We chose Iliff Commons for the location, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The lighting, the weather—everything came together beautifully. It created a warm and natural backdrop that matched the mood we wanted for his photos. Before the session, I wasn’t too familiar with Andy’s work, but after meeting him, I quickly realized just how talented and respected he is in his field. Jack is a one of a kind. He was so much fun to hang out with and I absolutely loved his personality. FUN. That's the way I would describe him.
