Interview with Audrey Cape - Washburn Rural Class of 2024 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about Audrey's session. She was so photogenic and her ideas were amazing and inspiring. She wanted something completely different than what we normally do, something artsy, emotional, grungy... needless to say she was the perfect model. So photogenic and made this session one of my favorites of all time! In the beginning of my career, this was really the style that I tried to shoot but to be honest, there isn't a huge amount of seniors wanting to be photographed this way, so I don't do it often. But it was an absolute joy creating this session with her! Thank you for checking out Audrey's session! I hope you love it as much as I do!


T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school?

Audrey: I would like to study archaeology, english, and overall, history. 



T.H. Peterson: What has your senior been like so far?

Audrey: Senior year has been very enjoyable. Although, I have a lot of school work, it is all from my favorite subjects. I love meeting new people and having discussions. 

T.H. P.: What is your dream job?

Audrey: I want to become an archivist and catalog artifacts of history.

T.H. P.: How long have you played bass? How did you start playing?

Audrey: I started playing electric bass when I was 13. My orchestra teacher showed me his favorite bands and I was so interested in that sound. 

T.H. P.: What is something you enjoyed about your session with us? 

Audrey: I absolutely loved the artistic freedom to create images I felt reflected my personality. Everyone was so kind and made it such a fun experience.

T.H. P.: What bands would you recommend everyone listen to?

Audrey: This is the fun part. Most definitely listen to Aberdeen is Dead, The Velveteers, Bôa, Dazey and the Scouts, Radiohead, Jigsaw Youth, Pretty Sick, and Deftones. 

T.H. P.: Biggest pet peeve?

Audrey: My biggest pet peeve is people who do not grasp the concept of personal space.

T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Audrey: I have 4 huskies.

T.H. P.: If you could have lunch with anyone who would you pick?

Audrey: I would love to have lunch with Mike Dirnt from the band Green Day. 

T.H. P.: Book or movie everyone needs to experience. 

Audrey: Everyone must read More Than This by Patrick Ness and watch Talk To Me.

I am soooooo happy with Luke and Stephany’s maternity session. I almost spit my drink out when I pulled up and saw Luke standing out there. The laughs didn’t stop there. John and April's beautiful day! Incredible Wedding Celebration at Liquid Art Winery - Manhattan, KS

John and April’s wedding at Liquid Art Winery was something special from start to finish. Set against rolling hills and the vineyard, the whole day had this calm, beautiful feel to it. It was cloudy in the best way—soft light, perfect for photos, and just an all-around ideal day for a wedding. Then right at the end of the night, the sun came out and gave us the most gorgeous golden light to wrap everything up. What stood out most was just how loved John and April are. You could feel it in every moment—friends and family showing up big for them, celebrating them, and surrounding them with so much support. Every detail of the day was dialed in. The food was incredible—brisket, salad, veggies—all so good. They even brought in local small businesses for cookies and ice cream, which was such a fun and thoughtful touch. Interview with Sadie Craig - West Franklin High School Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Senior sessions like Sadie's are the ones that really get my creative side going. She has such a unique style, and from the moment she showed me examples of the kinds of photos she loved, I knew this wasn't going to be a typical senior session. She was drawn to dramatic, cinematic, and darker images, and I couldn't wait to bring those ideas to life. Of course, we made sure to capture the classic smiling portraits everyone loves, but some of my favorite images from her session were the ones where we pushed ourselves creatively with dramatic lighting, movement, interesting posing, and a little bit of artistic storytelling. Interview with Tristan Craig - West Franklin High School Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the best time photographing Tristan for his senior portraits. We started at Ward-Meade Park, where we had this incredible variety of backgrounds. The sun was shining, giving us a warm, golden glow. Then, we headed over to the NOTO district, and it was just bursting with color. Every corner was vibrant, and Tristan really lit up, especially when we brought his tuba into the shots. I’ve been photographing him since he was little, so it was really special to see him grow into this moment. I could tell he was having a blast, and so was I. Interview with Kennedy Gatewood - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Kennedy's senior session was one of those sessions that reminds me why I love photographing seniors so much. She attends Seaman High School, and from the moment we started, she was absolutely incredible in front of the camera. Her outfits were stunning, and she has such a vibrant personality that every location felt completely different. We ended up doing a longer senior sessions, which isn't something we do very often, but it gave us the opportunity to visit several different locations and create an amazing amount of variety. Instead of spending a long time in one place, we kept moving, and every stop gave us something new and unique. My favorite part of the session was our trip to Lake Wabaunsee. We photographed at the waterfall, the flooded road, and the beach, and every single location seemed to give us another incredible backdrop. Interview with Chloe Fox - Topeka West Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Chloe was so much fun to photograph. We started her senior session around TPAC and some of downtown Topeka before heading over to the Governor's Mansion. We wrapped everything up at Kaw River State Park where she actually got in the water  and those ended up being some of my fav photos from the day. Chloe is a dancer and plays clarinet in band  but more than anything she's just a genuinely nice, easygoing person. It honestly felt like the session was over almost as soon as it started. One thing I kept noticing throughout her session was her smile. Most seniors know how to smile for a camera, and Chloe definitely did, but every now and then she'd laugh at something we'd say or just have one of those real moments. Interview with Tanner Reed - Shawnee Heights Class of 2020 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Tanner had an awesome session in downtown Topeka for his senior shoot!  It had been raining on and off an on all week, but we were able to capture some amazing images when the sun was out!  He finished up his session at his favorite place to be, the baseball field. Tanner is an amazing baseball player and he had us in awe as we watched him pose for pics.  He looked like a natural! We were able to get some really cool shots just before the rain hit! Amber and Matt's amazing and unique day! Abe and Jake's Landing - Lawrence, KS

Amber and Matt’s wedding at Abe and Jake’s Landing in Lawrence, Kansas, was such a beautiful celebration. From the moment I arrived, it was clear how much love and respect they have for each other. The smiles, the tears, the laughter, and all the warm hugs made the day feel so full of emotion. They looked absolutely amazing, and their beautiful family added even more joy to the day. It was one of those weddings that just felt special from start to finish. One of the most unique parts of their wedding was the live cover band from Kansas City playing Talking Heads songs — such a fun and unexpected twist! I’ve never seen anything like it at a wedding, and it brought so much energy to the night. The dance floor stayed full with guests of all ages having the best time. Interview with Jonah Tevis - Topeka West Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

There was a lot to like about Jonah's senior session. He's a very photogenic guy with a great personality, and we had a lot of fun exploring several different locations around Topeka. We started at the library, made our way to the Kansas State Capitol, and finished up with some great urban looks on Kansas Avenue. Since Jonah is a huge history fan, those locations were a perfect fit. We also made sure to include his trumpet, and those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire session. As we talked throughout the evening, we discovered we both enjoyed movies and pop culture, and once that conversation got going, it really brought Jonah out of his shell. He already had a great personality, but it was fun to see him become even more comfortable in front of the camera.
