Carlie's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Newborn Photographers


Our session with Carlie was great! She is a cute baby with lots of love from the family. I feel honored to have been able to capture these beautiful images of her family as she is baby number three and we've been able to document all three. They are a wonderful family and it is amazing to see them growing up! Carlie was a great model and even though she didn't really sleep much during her session, she gave us lots of adorable expressions. Here are some of our favorites!

T.H. Peterson: Who does Carlie look like?
Danai: She looks just like big sister, Claire; which means she also looks like Dad.

T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name?
Danai: We had a few names we have liked but none of them seemed to fit. Shortly after we found out she was a girl, Corey said what do you think about Carlie Dean, and we can spell it using the same letters as Claire’s and Dane’s names. It just felt right! So she has the same letters as both big sister and big brother.
T.H. P.: How was your pregnancy?
Danai: Carlie’s pregnancy was a lot like my first with Claire; however, when I started to get pelvic pain mid way through, Corey recommended I start doing prenatal yoga. This time I took him seriously and started doing it daily for 10-15 minutes. I felt so much stronger and healthier this time. With this being the third, I was surprised it felt like the easiest. 
T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us?
Danai: This is the third newborn session we’ve done with you and it is always so comfortable and inclusive for the whole family! 
T.H. P.: How is life adjusting to a new baby?
Danai: All of the kids have been a little different and Carlie was no exception. She has been a pretty easy going girly though. She rarely fusses unless she is hungry or has tummy pain. I think the biggest adjustment has been how to juggle three kids 4 years old and under. But her older brother and sister love her so very much and have been really awesome helpers, which has been really great!
T.H. P.: What do the kids think?
Danai: The kids both adore her. They ask to see her and hold her all the time. We’re really grateful they are such a great big sister and big brother!

Now this was a special session! We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. During our first moments together, she just stared at me and was so calm, I couldn’t have fallen more in love.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house?
