Interview with Alexus Smith - Royal Valley Class of 2024 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

 

Alexus was a blast to hang out with! We took her senior session, primarily in country and rural settings. We got some amazing looks at Iliff Commons, Governor's mansion and Kaw River Park. Three of my favorite locations for seniors. She had a lot of fun and her smile just lit up her session. She is a laid back but fun young lady. I loved her energy and attitude. She looked great in every image and I think after reading her interview you can see that her personality really shines through and her confidence will take her far in life! It was an honor to capture these for her!

T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?

Alexus: My plans after highschool are to hopefully go to

college to become a lawyer.

T.H. P.: What class is your favorite this year?

Alexus: My favorite class this year that I took would probably be either Plant and Soil science or English IV. Both teachers I truly liked very well.

T.H. P.: What would your dream job be?

Alexus: My dream job would either be a lawyer or EMT.

T.H. P.: How would your friends describe you?

Alexus: I asked a few of my friends who have seen me at my highest and my lowest, one had said that I am one who loves others more than herself and that I’ve always been one to put others first and hide her struggles to make sure others are okay. The other friend had said that I was fun, energetic, loving person who is constantly caring for others, even when they probably don't deserve it. I’m very hardworking, too. I know what I need to get done and I do it quickly and efficiently.

T.H. P.: Something you liked about your senior session?

Alexus: Something I liked about my senior session was how fun and interactive it was.

T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Alexus: Something people may be surprised to find out about me is I really love working, if I have the opportunity to work I will take it.

T.H. P.: Biggest pet peeve?

Alexus: I actually don’t think I have any pet peeves to think about it.

T.H. P.: What singer or band are you obsessed with?

Alexus: I actually have a couple of favorite artists. I love Morgan Wallen, Bailey Zimmerman, and David Kushner. 

T.H. P.: Favorite thing to watch on netflix / hulu, etc?

Alexus: My favorite thing to watch would be Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix.

T.H. P.: Describe your relationship with your sister. Alexus: My relationship with my sister, where do I begin? I’ll start off with saying despite our occasional arguments as siblings have, we have an amazing relationship. There’s an age gap between us so with that being said, she’s my built in best friend, could be a second mom, or just someone I can always depend on. She does so much for me that I will never be able to repay her for. 


She has always been there for me and I will forever be there for her whenever she may need it. I love my sister and my family more than they’ll ever know and I would do anything for them.

Now this was a special session! It's not often we photograph multiples for newborn sessions but these little girls were just perfect and despite them being born several months ago, because they were so premature they photographed just like brand new newborns! We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. Sadly the tulips are all gone however the lush greenery made a perfect backdrop anywhere we posed this adorable family! How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

What a beautiful baby boy and it was great to have his whole family right there with him as we did this session. These are some of our favorites! Enjoy! T.H. Destrie: I have always loved the name Diego, and so I knew when I had a second boy he would have that name. T.H. P.: What does big bro think? Destrie: His brother is in total awe of him. What a handsome little guy! I loved photographing Declan and his session was just perfect! I especially loved capturing the details like his spikey hair. Totally adorable! Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. She is growing by leaps and bounds and I am so thankful to have her on our team! She's someone I always appreciate having around! What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. During our first moments together, she just stared at me and was so calm, I couldn’t have fallen more in love.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house? Sierra: It honestly has been a huge adjustment, but way smoother than I had imagined. Cash is 5 and he’s been super helpful and sweet
