Chandler Jack's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

We had the absolute joy of photographing little Chandler, and it was such a special experience because we’ve had the honor of capturing his siblings’ newborn photos too. Seeing this family again and being able to create these memories for mom and dad was really wonderful. Chandler was such a little model—he gave us the sweetest eye contact and the most adorable expressions throughout the session. One of my favorite moments was when he yawned; I told mom that yawn was just as cute as a smile!

During the session, we were able to try lots of different poses, expressions, and props, and everything came together beautifully. I feel really happy with how his photos turned out—they’re full of personality and warmth. It’s always such a privilege to capture these first moments, and Chandler made it so easy to create images that his family will cherish for years to come.

T.H. Peterson: How did you come up with Chandler Jack for his name?
Mackenly: Chandler was just a name we liked. I’ve always liked names that aren’t overused but not “unique” in a sense. Jack is my grandpa’s name.

T.H. P: First thing you thought when you saw him?
Mackenly: He looked exactly like how our oldest son looked!
T.H. P: Who does he look like?
Mackenly: He definitely takes after his dad!
T.H. P: What do the siblings think?
Mackenly: Our oldest (6) is obsessed with him—he asks to hold him every chance he gets! Our daughter (2) is just now starting to acknowledge that he exists. For the first week or so she would just look at him from across the room.
T.H. P: Something you liked about your session with us?
Mackenly: Everything! I love how patient you guys are when he would get cranky or not want to cooperate right away! We’ve had all three babies photographed by you guys and every single experience has been amazing!
T.H. P: What was your labor and delivery like?
Mackenly: Fairly easy! I was induced with Chandler, which was different from my other deliveries. Overall I had an amazing support group and my nurses were absolutely phenomenal! Couldn’t have asked for a better experience!

Zoey Jean and Katy Jo's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Our recent newborn session with Katy Jo and Zoey was truly a joy from start to finish. These sweet little babies were absolute angels, and even though it was a bit of a challenge at times, we were able to capture some truly beautiful moments. It was also a wonderful opportunity for our new assistants to get hands-on experience, and they did an amazing job helping during the session. Mom was completely smitten with her girls, and you could see the pure love and joy in her eyes as she watched them throughout the session. Interview with Laci Cole - Seaman High Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Laci was such a joy to photograph. From the moment she walked into the studio, she was friendly, relaxed, and incredibly easy to work with. She has a great smile and is very photogenic, which always makes a session flow effortlessly. Nothing ever felt awkward, even in between shots, and that made the whole experience feel natural and fun. Her outfits were perfect too—they fit the mood of the photos so well and really pulled everything together. It was also one of those cold, snowy days, so we started inside the studio where it was warm, but we couldn’t resist stepping outside for a few shots. Hayes was such a beautiful baby boy! He had lots of hair and was so peaceful and chill, which made our job so much fun. Even though he slept most of the time, every once in a while he would peek his eyes open and give us the funniest little looks. You could tell right away that he had a lot of personality. Emmy Sue was an absolute dream to photograph. She is beautiful, with perfect skin, and gave us the sweetest little smiles and smirks throughout her session. We had so much fun taking pictures of baby Sienna recently! Her mom and dad are so in love with her, and you can really feel it when you’re around them.  Sienna was a little fussy at first, and it took a few minutes to get her settled—but once she was, she showed us all kinds of cute expressions. Baby Benjamin’s newborn session was such a sweet and special experience. He is a tiny, beautiful little guy, and from the moment we started, you could feel how excited Mom and Dad were to be there. We took our time and worked carefully to create soft, beautiful images of him, and he gave us the most adorable little expressions. Every photo felt gentle, calm, and full of love, making the entire session a joy to photograph. Some of my favorite images from Benjamin’s session are the family portraits. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Kyren was truly one of the most chill babies we’ve ever photographed. From the moment he came in, he was calm, sweet, and just went with the flow. He has so much hair and gave us the cutest little expressions throughout the session. Honestly, he made our job so easy. He let us move him, pose him, and try different setups without a fuss. Sessions like that are such a gift, and we were able to capture some really beautiful images of him. This was also one of the sessions where our new assistants were getting some hands-on practice, and they had the best time working with Kyren. Delainey was the most perfect little baby! Tiny, precious, and so peaceful, she slept right through almost her entire session. It was a practice session for one of our newer baby assistants, and Delainey made it so easy to wrap and pose her perfectly. She really was a dream to work with!
