Interview with Sadie Craig - West Franklin High School Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits
Senior sessions like Sadie's are the ones that really get my creative side going. She has such a unique style, and from the moment she showed me examples of the kinds of photos she loved, I knew this wasn't going to be a typical senior session. She was drawn to dramatic, cinematic, and darker images, and I couldn't wait to bring those ideas to life. Of course, we made sure to capture the classic smiling portraits everyone loves, but some of my favorite images from her session were the ones where we pushed ourselves creatively with dramatic lighting, movement, interesting posing, and a little bit of artistic storytelling. Those are the sessions that remind me why I love what I do.
We photographed Sadie and her brother Tristan together, taking turns throughout the evening, but their sessions ended up having completely different personalities. We started at Ward-Meade Park before heading to NOTO, which felt like the perfect place for someone as artistic as Sadie. The colorful murals, unique buildings, and creative atmosphere fit her perfectly. I've been photographing Sadie and Tristan since they were little kids, so seeing them now as confident young adults finding their own paths is pretty incredible. It's been an honor to watch them grow up over the years, and I'm so thankful their family has trusted me to capture these milestones along the way.
T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?
Sadie: I plan on finding a sense of stability within myself, learning to be an even better person, and experiencing different cultures around the world.
T.H. P.: Dream job?
Sadie: I would love a job that makes me feel like I’m giving my life to something greater. I would like to go somewhere less fortunate to try and help people with less than me.
T.H. P.: What is a fact people would be surprised to learn about you?
Sadie: I probably would like to be your friend. I don’t really care how different you are from me—I like knowing everyone. It’s so fun to me.
T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?
Sadie: It was very casual and wasn’t tense at all.
T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident?
Sadie: Knowing that I know what I’m doing.
T.H. P.: What kind of art do you like making?
Sadie: Fanart/original character work.
T.H. P.: Favorite Pokémon character?
Sadie: Skitty.
T.H. P.: Favorite anime?
Sadie: Hells Paradise, Banana Fish, all Mononoke movies, and the 2009 show.
T.H. P.: Describe your relationship with Tristan?
Sadie: I’d like to think we get along really well. I think we’re more friends than a lot of siblings are.
