Interview with Hunter Kirkwood - Washburn Rural Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
It was such a great morning photographing Hunter for his senior session at the lake. When we arrived, we were surprised at how empty the park was. It made the whole session feel peaceful and relaxed, and it gave us plenty of space to capture some great photos. The morning started off cloudy and a little dreary, but by the end of the session the sun began to come out, giving us some beautiful light to finish with. The whole setting felt calm, comfortable, and just really enjoyable. One thing that stood out right away about Hunter was how easy he was to talk to. He has a great personality and made the session feel very natural. We had some great conversations while walking around the lake and finding different spots for photos. Hunter is a genuinely nice guy, and it was a pleasure getting to know him a bit during his session. He has a realistic but optimistic outlook on life, and I truly believe he has a very promising future ahead of him. T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school...

Shelbi is a senior at Shawnee Heights High School, and photographing her was such a joy! We started at her home, and her backyard was like a hidden park—full of gorgeous spots for pictures. Shelbi has the sweetest personality and a smile that lights up every photo. She was so easygoing and fun to be around, which made the session feel relaxed and natural. After that, we made our way to Shawnee Lake, and the timing couldn’t have been better. The sun was setting right over the water, giving us the most beautiful golden light. Shelbi’s laugh is the kind that makes you smile just hearing it, and it showed through in every shot. It was one of those sessions that felt more like hanging out with a friend than work. T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school? Shelbi: Studying to be a Sonogram Tech. T.H. P.: What is keeping you busy this summer? Shelbi: Work, friends & family. T.H. I had the chance to photograph Morgan, a senior from SFT, and it was such a special session. I’ve been taking her photos since she was a little girl, and she has always been so photogenic. We met at Shawnee Lake for her senior pictures, and the setting was just perfect. The vibrant colors and natural background made every shot pop. I absolutely loved how her photos turned out—so full of life and beauty. Morgan is a cheerleader and such a confident, yet quiet young lady. She wore a red dress that looked amazing on her—it really stood out against the natural scenery and complimented her gorgeous red hair. She’s always been a joy to photograph, and spending time with her again was so much fun. Here are some of our favorite images from her session! T.H. Peterson: Dream job? Morgan: Cardiac sonographer. T.H. P.: Super power? Morgan: Flying. T.H. P.: What classes are you glad to be done with? Morgan: English. T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us? Morgan: It was very relax...

Interview with Preston Ross - Washburn Rural Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had a great time photographing Preston’s senior session at Shawnee Lake during a beautiful sunset. We started at Ted Ensley Gardens and made our way around the entire lake, stopping at a few scenic spots along the way. The evening light was perfect, and we finished the session on the east side with an amazing sky over the water—one of my favorite ways to wrap up a shoot. Preston has a great sense of humor and a personality that shines. He’s not afraid to be himself, which made the session relaxed and fun. You’ll definitely see that come through in his photos and his interview. I’m super happy with how everything turned out. Here are a few of our favorite images! T.H. Peterson: What classes are you looking forward to most your senior year?  Preston: Individual/Team Sports T.H. P.: Plans for summer?  Preston: Work at Noodles & Co.  T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?  Preston: I’m straight T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session ...
