Interview with Hunter Kirkwood - Washburn Rural Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

It was such a great morning photographing Hunter for his senior session at the lake. When we arrived, we were surprised at how empty the park was. It made the whole session feel peaceful and relaxed, and it gave us plenty of space to capture some great photos. The morning started off cloudy and a little dreary, but by the end of the session the sun began to come out, giving us some beautiful light to finish with. The whole setting felt calm, comfortable, and just really enjoyable.

One thing that stood out right away about Hunter was how easy he was to talk to. He has a great personality and made the session feel very natural. We had some great conversations while walking around the lake and finding different spots for photos. Hunter is a genuinely nice guy, and it was a pleasure getting to know him a bit during his session. He has a realistic but optimistic outlook on life, and I truly believe he has a very promising future ahead of him.

T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school?
Hunter: I'd like to be a game designer. I believe I'm pretty creative, and having a job that's fun will ensure I won't get burnt out.

T.H. P.: Favorite class this year and why?
Hunter: My favorite class this year is Workplace Experience because I'm able to work on whatever I'm interested in, and it's quiet.
T.H. P.: New skill you'd like to learn?
Hunter: I want to learn how to build my own computer.
T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
Hunter: I am a Boy Scout!
T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident?
Hunter: When I feel accepted by the people around me.

T.H. P.: Describe yourself using the letters of your first name.

T.H. P.: Last movie you saw and what did you think?
Hunter: The last new movie I watched was Zootopia 2. It was alright. It feels like a repeat of the first one, but I'm sure kids will like it anyway.

T.H. P.: First thought that comes to mind every morning when you wake up?
Hunter: “Where’s Jay?” (our puppy)

T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?
Hunter: I genuinely love the way my photos turned out. It's refreshing to have a photographer let me add my own “spin” on my images, and I was even allowed to create a cool signature for my collage.
T.H. P.: Something you'll miss about high school?
Hunter: I'm going to miss the new Innovation Center at Washburn. It's brand new and has awesome technology.

Interview with Julian Ferrer - Osage City Class of 2027 - Osage County's Best Senior Portraits

Julian was an awesome senior to photograph! We started out at Four Corners near Scranton, then headed to Osage County Fishing Lake before finishing up in downtown Osage City. He was super photogenic, had a great smile and expressions, and was just really easy to photograph. He was personable, relaxed, and made the whole session a lot of fun. I loved how naturally everything came together. By the time we got to Osage City, the sun was sitting right on the horizon and the golden hour light was absolutely amazing. The colors were so rich, the weather was beautiful, and we had a great time walking around downtown and creating some really great images. I feel like we were able to capture Julian's personality while also creating images that really flattered him. Cassie and Brandon's amazing day! The Beacon Wedding Venue - Topeka Wedding Photography

Brandon and Cassie were married last Saturday at The Beacon in Topeka, and what a beautiful day it was! The Beacon is such a classic, historic venue, and it made the perfect backdrop for their wedding. It was the last really hot day of summer before all the cool weather moved in, so we stayed inside the entire time. Honestly, though, with a building this beautiful, we never once wished we were outside. The lighting was amazing, there were so many different rooms and looks to work with, and the architecture was just gorgeous. One of my favorite moments was photographing Cassie on the huge grand staircase on the lower level, showing off her long train. It was absolutely stunning. And then there were the tears! I joked with Brandon and Cassie about how many happy emotions were bubbling over throughout the day. Interview with Riley Mohler - Silver Lake High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I’ve been photographing Riley and her family since she was little, so getting to photograph her senior pictures was pretty special. We had an amazing session at Gage Park, and Riley was absolutely fantastic in front of the camera. She is super photogenic, has tons of confidence, and has a great smile and expression. She’s also just one of those people who is really easy to photograph because she’s so personable and completely natural in front of the camera. And I have to say, I loved her hairstyle for the session! Riley is a softball player and will be continuing to play in college, so of course we had to work some of that into her senior session. Maddie was such a sweet girl and just an absolute pleasure to photograph. Basketball is a huge part of her life, and she has committed to play basketball at K-State after she graduates, which is pretty awesome. We had a lot of fun with her senior session because she brought a really cool variety of outfits. Every outfit gave us a completely different look, and we were able to get some really great images downtown before heading out to a more country setting. Maddie was just really easy to photograph. She had a great smile, great expressions, and honestly, I don't think she has a bad angle. By the time we got out to the country, the skies were just incredible. Interview with Brek Wahlmeier - Hayden High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had a great time photographing Brek for his senior pictures! We started off at the natatorium, where we got some really awesome and dramatic swimming photos. From there, we headed to the tennis courts at Hayden High School, where Brek goes to school. We were able to get some really cool shots there, both dramatic and fun. Brek was a cool guy, had a great smile, and was willing to try anything we wanted to do. After the tennis courts, we headed downtown and got some photos on top of a parking garage, along with a spot that gave us lots of variety. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Misa and Shanehse's senior session - Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I met up with Misa and her brother Shanehse at Osage County Fishing Lake for a sunrise sibling session. We did a few pictures together, but most of the session was individual pictures of each of them. They were both a little on the quiet side, but they were a lot of fun to work with, and you could tell right away that they really get along. It was a beautiful morning with great weather, and we were able to get some really cool shots of them together along with a lot of great individual images. Mom came along for the session and was smiling the whole time, just enjoying watching her kids get their pictures taken. Before we knew it, the session was over. I really felt like we got some images that showed their personalities, especially their great smiles. Elly's newborn session - Interview with mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Ellie was absolutely precious! Mom and Dad brought her into the studio for her newborn session, and it had been a little while since we had done a newborn session. I told them how easy it is to forget just how tiny they are until you have one in front of you again. Ellie was so sweet when we first met her. She was very mild and chill, although it did take us a little while to get her settled and comfortable. Even while we were working on that, she was giving us some of the cutest little expressions. And then she gave us the biggest smile I think I have ever seen from a newborn! It was absolutely amazing and one of those moments that makes a newborn session so much fun. Interview with Mason Haas - Shawnee Heights High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had a great time photographing Mason for his senior pictures! We started out at the Beddish soccer fields, which was a perfect place to show off one of the things he loves most... soccer. Mason is a serious athlete who works hard and clearly enjoys the game, so it was awesome to capture that part of his life. It was also one of those really hot days toward the end of summer, with the sun beating down on us, but I actually think that helped give us some really intense skies and a unique look to some of the images. From there, we headed out for some sunset lake photos before making our way downtown. We finished the session on top of a parking garage and then ended up on Kansas Avenue after dark. We don't normally take senior sessions all the way into nighttime, but doing that gave us a chance to create something really different.
