What do you charge for portraits?



I get that question all the time. It's a good one worth posting here because I know lots of you are wondering that!

My answer depends on what you want photographed. Currently, we are charging $50 an hour for every hour we're shooting you. That $50 goes towards the purchase of whatever you want to purchase from what we offer.

We sell our photographs in units. A unit is:

1 - 8x10 or
2 - 5x7s (of the same pose) or
4 - 3x5s (of the same pose) or
8 - wallets (of the same pose) or
12 - compact wallets (of the same pose)

Each unit is usually around $10 and you can purchase these units of your favorite poses at the minimum of whatever we're charging for your session, ie. $50 for one hour, $100 for two hours.

We do have larger prints but these take up more than one unit. They include:

11x14 = 5 units
16x20 = 10 units
20x24 = 15 units
30x40 = 25 units
CD w/full copyright = 1 unit per image purchased

These prices are subject to change and reflect typical single family sessions / babies, etc. Senior portraits and generational portraits differ slightly. However, prices are relatively similar.

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful senior named Jahara from Topeka High. We started her session in downtown Topeka and then headed to Ward Meade Park, which gave us the perfect mix of urban and natural backgrounds. Ava was absolutely beautiful for her senior portrait session! We had an amazing time capturing her both in the studio and outdoors, and every shot turned out stunning. I recently photographed a branding session with Andy McKee , an incredibly talented guitar player. I hate to just call him just a guitar player, he was very versatile with his playing... an amazing talent. We chose Iliff Commons for the location, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The lighting, the weather—everything came together beautifully. It created a warm and natural backdrop that matched the mood we wanted for his photos. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Meet sweet baby Amelia! She was an absolute dream during her newborn session—so smiley and full of sweetness. She slept soundly, letting us gently pose her, and was the perfect little model. Zendaya was an absolute dream to photograph! She was calm, sweet, and full of the most precious expressions. From tiny smiles to curious looks, she gave us so many beautiful moments to capture.
