Zendaya's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Zendaya was an absolute dream to photograph! She was calm, sweet, and full of the most precious expressions. From tiny smiles to curious looks, she gave us so many beautiful moments to capture. Her family adores her, and it’s easy to see why—she is already surrounded by so much love. It was a joy to document this special time for them, and we know she is going to grow up with a heart full of love and warmth.

T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Zendaya?
Whitney: I thought she looked exactly like her brother when he was born. 

T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name?

Whitney: We actually had planned on naming her Delilah through the whole pregnancy. When we were walking into the hospital we decided my husband would pick her name as a surprise since I chose our son’s name. I didn’t know what her name was until she was born. The name Zendaya wasn’t even on our list of possible names, but I think my husband did well. I'm happy with it.

T.H. P.: What does Benji think?

Whitney: I think Benji think’s she’s a baby doll. He’s always really sweet to her and smiles at her. I’m sure that will change in the future. 

T.H. P.: Favorite time of the day with her?

Whitney: My favorite time of the day with her is the evening. She really wakes up and starts looking around the room after dinner time so I feel like I get to see more of her personality. 

T.H. P.: Describe her personality in 3 words.

Whitney: Alert, easygoing and cuddly.

I had so much fun photographing Brody and Kiera, a pair of high school siblings who came to the studio for a just-for-fun session! Their bond was easy to see, laughing and teasing. They brought such a natural vibe to every shot. I love sessions like this that capture the joy of family without needing a special occasion. We also brought their hobbies into the session to show off their personalities. Kiera, a talented ballet dancer, posed with grace, while Brody, a baseball player, brought his sporty style. Erika and Brad are the sweetest family, and I loved photographing their newborn session. Their new baby, Luciana, has so much hair that I joked it looked like a wig! Her big sister, Addy, wasn’t too interested in the session, but we still managed to capture some really sweet moments of them together. Even though this was a quick session, we got some beautiful images of their little family. Newborn sessions are always special, but there’s something extra sweet about capturing those early days with a new baby. Luciana was so peaceful, and her tiny features were just perfect. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Azaria’s senior session was one to remember! We braved the freezing cold, with snow covering the ground, to capture her love for softball. The golden hour sunset added a warm glow, making the field look magical. She brought along softball shirts from childhood and past teams, a special touch that told the story of her journey. Meet sweet baby Amelia! She was an absolute dream during her newborn session—so smiley and full of sweetness. She slept soundly, letting us gently pose her, and was the perfect little model. Welcoming baby Crew into the world was such a joy! This newborn session was all about capturing the love this family shares, and Crew was absolutely adorable.
