Interview with Dakota James Thorne - 2017 Santa Fe Trail High Grad - Topeka's Most creative senior portraits - Fun Truckhenge Session

Shooting Dakota's session was a blast. He had some creative ideas he wanted to include in his senior portraits and starting off at the Jayhawk Theater was awesome. I love the vintage appeal of that place and then we headed to Truckhenge out east. It was a great place to spend the rest of the time with Dakota. He loved it and so did his family. We had an amazing time there and ended the shoot with covering Dakota in paint. We laughed a ton, got some crazy good images and had an awesome time. Dakota and his family are super fun and there was never a dull moment. I am thankful that Dakota chose us to capture an important time in his life like his senior photos. It was truly a blast. Here's a few of his favorite images from the shoot and also included is a fun interview with the one and only Dakota! Enjoy!
T.H. Peterson: What’s the best thing about going to Santa Fe Trail? Dakota: The best thing about going to Santa Fe Trail is all the memories I've made with friends over the last 6 school years.
T.H. P.: What’s your favorite class and why? 
Dakota: Choraliers because I love to sing but that class is never a dull moment.
T.H. P.: Funniest teacher at SFT? Dakota: Either Mrs Jarrett or Mrs Flory. It's hard to choose.
T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school? Dakota: I plan to become a cosmetologist, makeup artist, and a photographer.
T.H. P.: Your session was a lot of fun. What was your favorite part? Dakota: I loved the part of the session when we got to Truckhenge.

T.H. P.: What would your dream job be? Dakota: Photographer or model lol I can't decide.
T.H. P.: What song reminds you of your childhood? Dakota: Humps by the Black Eyed Peas.
T.H. P.: Are you a morning person? Dakota: Depends on the day and my mood.
T.H. P.: Describe yourself with a song title. Dakota: Heathens.
T.H. P.: Favorite actress. Dakota: Melissa McCarthy.
T.H. P.: Your family seems really close and like you have a great bond. What do you love about your family most? Dakota: That hard, we are all in it together.
T.H. P.: Favorite outdoor activity? Dakota: Hiking or climbing trees.
T.H. P.: What is something really obscure people would be surprised to learn about you? Dakota: I'm 17 and I have 6 tattoos. Only one of them is visible when I wear a shirtT.H. P.: What’s your favorite tattoo and why?Dakota: My favorite tattoo is probably my Shrek tattoo because it is Fiona's curse, it shows that once you find true love you will be in loves true for and to me that means I will be at my happiest and my true self.

We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. Sadly the tulips are all gone however the lush greenery made a perfect backdrop anywhere we posed this adorable family! How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house?
