Interview with Paige Richmond - 2017 Perry Lecompton Grad - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

 We had a great time with Paige. She's a beautiful young lady with a great smile. She graduates this year and so it was cool to be able to do these for her before she graduates. We photographed her and her family a while back and so it was awesome to be able to do these. We took these at Shawnee Lake and even though it just turned spring and it's still chilly and windy out, it was a great backdrop for her shoot. She was a perfect model, was fine with trying anything and we all had a great time!! Here's a few of our favorites!
T.H. Peterson: What’s the best thing about going to Perry Lecompton?
Paige: That it's a small school.

T.H. P.: What’s your pet peeve when it comes to high school?

Paige: The people!
T.H. P.: What do you want to do when you graduate high school?
Paige: I'm going to stick with dental assisting and then go back to school to become a dental hygienist.
T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you? 
Paige: My RBF does not represent me.
T.H. P.: What will you miss most about high school?
Paige: Not paying bills.
T.H. P.: What would you tell your freshman self if you could go back?
Paige: Don't care so much about what others think of you.
T.H. P.: Favorite outdoor activity?
Paige:  Kneeboarding.
T.H. P.: Favorite season and why?
Paige: Basketball season!
T.H. P.: Best movie you’ve ever seen?
Paige: Fast and furious.
T.H. P.: Favorite place to eat in Lawrence?
Paige: Buffalo Wild Wings.

Interview with Lauryn Gilfillan - Seaman High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Lauryn is one of the coolest seniors I’ve ever met. From the moment we started her session, I could tell she was completely herself—funny, creative, and so much fun to be around. We started downtown in Topeka, and she even brought a Funko Pop of herself, which made for some awesome and unique pictures. I wanted to make sure I captured her personality because she’s so colorful and full of life, and I think we nailed it! We also took pictures at the Cyrus Hotel, where she totally rocked the modern and classy vibe. After that, we ended at the Capitol, and the photos there turned out absolutely beautiful. Photographing the Rees and Collier families is always a joy, and their recent generational session was no exception. We gathered at mom and dad’s family farm, where the kids grew up—a stunning countryside backdrop complete with a red barn and grazing horses. It was the perfect setting to celebrate their family’s love and history. The session was filled with smiles and laughter, with the kids stealing the show with their adorable grins. Photographing Kaitlynn’s sweet 16 at Shawnee Lake was such a special experience. I’ve been taking her pictures since she was little, so it was amazing to see how much she’s grown up! The setting sun made everything look beautiful, and her outfits were perfect. She brought smoke bombs and balloons, which made the photos even more fun and colorful. Kaitlynn looked so natural in front of the camera. She’s always been photogenic, and she really shined in this session. It’s hard to believe she’s already 16! Interview with Molly Worley - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Molly was amazing to photograph! She’s a senior at Washburn Rural High School, Class of 2025, and she was so beautiful and natural in front of the camera. We started her session with some fall portraits at sunset, and the colors were just perfect. The golden light made everything look magical, and Molly’s smile made every photo stand out. She was super easygoing, which made the session so much fun. After sunset, we headed downtown to Topeka for some cool nighttime shots. We ended up on top of a parking garage that had an awesome view of the city skyline. The lights of the city in the background made the photos look incredible. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Madison was such a blast to photograph! She’s super fun and full of energy, and her smile made every picture look amazing. We started her session downtown, then went to Ward-Meade Park, and ended near the Governor's Mansion at sunset. The golden hour lighting was so pretty, and it made her photos look magical. A proud Taylor Swift fan, Madison wanted to incorporate her love for the iconic artist into the session.  She made the whole session so fun, and I’m so happy with how the pictures came out. Grand Teton Wedding - Beautiful fall wedding on the lake - Matt and Alena say I do!

In Sept, I packed up my camera and hit the road to Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park for a wedding that was really close to my heart. This wasn't just any wedding—it was for my old friend, Matt, and his beautiful bride, Alena. Matt isn’t just a friend; he’s one of the first photographers I ever trained, and he worked with me way back when. He’s a genuinely nice guy, and I always knew he deserved someone special. After spending just a short time around Alena, it was clear to me that she’s his soulmate. They’re absolutely perfect together. The trip itself was an adventure. My son, Moses, came along for the ride, and it took us two days to get there. We couldn’t have timed it better—the aspens were at their peak, with bright golden leaves that covered the landscape like a painting. Happy birthday Camille! First Year Photo Shoot - Cake Smash - Topeka's Best Baby Photographers

Camille’s first birthday cake smash was such a joy to photograph! We kicked off the session with some Christmas-themed photos, and she was all smiles, showing off so much personality. Camille was an absolute natural in front of the camera – she just lit up the room. Her expressions were priceless, and she made every shot a keeper! Once we moved on to the cake smash, things got even more fun! Camille went right for the cake with a curious look and then big, happy giggles as she dug in. It was adorable to see her tiny hands exploring the frosting and her face lighting up with each bite. Interview with Aubrey Richman - Lyndon High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the best time photographing Aubrey from Lyndon High School for her senior session! We kicked things off in downtown Topeka, where Aubrey brought tons of energy and personality to every shot. She showcased her cheerleading skills, along with her love for volleyball, and her joy was contagious. Her beautiful smile lit up every scene, and it was so easy to capture her bright spirit. The weather was amazing, with clear skies and a perfect golden hour glow that made everything even better. As the sun began to set, we made our way to the Governor's Mansion, where the light was absolutely stunning. The final shots by the Kansas River were my favorites of the whole session. The soft colors from the sunset reflected on the water, adding a warm, natural touch to every photo.
