Hope's cake smash!! Happy birthday Hope! Fun and colorful carousel shoot - Topeka's Best Family Photographers

Hope came back for her one-year cake smash and had some great pictures taken to help remember the special day!  Mom brought a homemade cake for Hope to tear in to and that is exactly what she did! She dug into the cake with zero hesitation and had an awesome cake smash session!!  After some yummy cake, Hope was thrilled to dig her hands and feet into the icing, destroying the cake! We always love when they come to see us for our sessions, and we loved this epic cake smash!  Try not to get too hungry looking through this delicious cake smash session!!!!
T.H. Peterson:  How has Hope's first year changed your family's life?

Dawn:  Having more than one child is way more of an adjustment than I would have thought.  We had to learn to juggle our family activities and still make time for our family and each of the girls individually. Oh and trying to find our new “normal”, well I think we are still trying to figure this out.



T.H. P.:  What is Hope's favorite thing to eat?
Dawn:   She loves Spaghetti O’s!!  We struggled for a number of months with her not wanting to touch anything.  But once we accepted that she was not going to eat baby food and started feeding her regular food, she hasn’t stopped.

T.H. P.:  Describe the relationship your daughters have with each other?
Dawn:  They definitely love each other.  You can already see Hope looking up to Isabelle and wanting to be involved with whatever she is doing.  Isabelle is the best big sister. She is always willing to help out and she loves to play with Hope. I can already tell that things are going to get interesting in a few years when Isabelle reaches the teen years and Hope is a toddler.
T.H. P.:  Based on her personality what do you think she would do as a job when she gets older? 
Dawn:  Hope is already super independent, so I can see her owning her own business someday.    If her love of food continues, maybe a food critic.

Baby Oakley was an absolute dream to photograph! This precious little girl, who looks just like her mama, was so calm and posed perfectly for us. Because she was so cooperative, we got to try new poses, props, and backdrops, making the session extra special. I had so much fun photographing Brody and Kiera, a pair of high school siblings who came to the studio for a just-for-fun session! Their bond was easy to see, laughing and teasing. They brought such a natural vibe to every shot. I love sessions like this that capture the joy of family without needing a special occasion. Meet Knox – the sweetest little guy! During his newborn session, he was such a joy to photograph. We used several adorable props and backdrops, and Knox gave us a little smile... basically we gushed over him! His expressions were so precious, showing off his personality even at such a young age. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Our session with Lainey was perfect. She was such a beautiful little model. We took her session with her family and her big brothers were adorable and a lot of fun. Azaria’s senior session was one to remember! We braved the freezing cold, with snow covering the ground, to capture her love for softball. The golden hour sunset added a warm glow, making the field look magical. She brought along softball shirts from childhood and past teams, a special touch that told the story of her journey. Despite the cold, Azaria did amazing, smiling through every shot and showcasing her passion for the game. Her confidence and determination shone through, creating beautiful and meaningful photos. Erika and Brad are the sweetest family, and I loved photographing their newborn session. Their new baby, Luciana, has so much hair that I joked it looked like a wig! Her big sister, Addy, wasn’t too interested in the session, but we still managed to capture some really sweet moments of them together. Even though this was a quick session, we got some beautiful images of their little family. Welcoming baby Ruby into the studio was such a joy! She was the sweetest little model, so peaceful and content throughout her session.
