Smokin Hot Session with Marcus Jones - Shawnee Heights HS Class of 2022 - Topeka's BEST Senior Portrait Photographers

 


We were so excited to meet Marcus, and photograph his senior pictures!  He had such a tough look, he was really focused and he honestly looked really intimidating at the beginning of his session. Once we got him to smile, he had such a great laugh!! We started his session on the football field at Shawnee Heights. He NAILED it! Wow!  We ended the session at Lake Shawnee and he looked so grown up in his suit. And to really bring it home, we used a smoke bomb in the parking lot and he rocked those poses!  What a cool session!!!


T.H. Peterson: What is one piece of advice you'd like to give incoming freshmen about high school?

Marcus: Life only gets harder but the payout is better and better.


T.H. P.:  How have your goals changed since you started as a freshman?

Marcus:  All I knew freshman year as I wanted engineering but now I want to do electrical engineering.


T.H. P.:  If you could take a dream vacation anywhere with anyone, where would you go and who would you take with you?

Marcus:  Mexico with my mom.


T.H. P.:  What is your favorite class from high school and why?

Marcus: Welding because it’s fun and I can make my own things out of metal.


T.H. P.:  If money was no object, what kind of vehicle would you drive and why?

Marcus: 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.


T.H. P.:  What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Marcus: I can be loud when I need to.


T.H. P.:  What is your favorite thing about going to Shawnee Heights High School?

Marcus: It’s where I grew up with my friends.


T.H. P.:  What kind of student are you?

Marcus: I usually am quiet and do my work.


T.H. P.:  What was your favorite part of your session with us?

Marcus: How fun it can be instead of being really serious.


T.H. P.:  Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Marcus: Hopefully with a college degree with a full-time job and a house with a lovely wife.

I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful senior named Jahara from Topeka High. We started her session in downtown Topeka and then headed to Ward Meade Park, which gave us the perfect mix of urban and natural backgrounds. Jahara looked stunning with her amazing makeup and radiant smile—she truly didn’t take a single bad photo! We had so much fun with her, laughing and chatting the whole time. Britain’s senior session was extra special because it took place at Riverview Wedding Venue in Reading, KS —a place that means a lot to him. We had the pleasure of photographing Noah for his senior session in Manhattan. Originally from Oregon, he now calls Kansas home and attends Manhattan High. We started downtown, capturing shots in the alleys and urban spaces before heading to the scenic outlook near the interstate. Meet Warren, the sweetest little guy with the most relaxed personality. At almost a month old, he was happy, content, and an absolute dream to photograph. Ava was absolutely beautiful for her senior portrait session! We had an amazing time capturing her both in the studio and outdoors, and every shot turned out stunning. One of the highlights of her session was getting to include her adorable big dog, Goose. He was such a sweetheart, and the photos of them together were just perfect! When we headed outside, it was freezing ! But Ava came prepared with her cowhide blanket, and let me tell you—it looked incredible. I even told her she looked like she just stepped out of a catalog! I recently photographed a branding session with Andy McKee , an incredibly talented guitar player. I hate to just call him just a guitar player, he was very versatile with his playing... an amazing talent. We chose Iliff Commons for the location, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The lighting, the weather—everything came together beautifully. It created a warm and natural backdrop that matched the mood we wanted for his photos. Before the session, I wasn’t too familiar with Andy’s work, but after meeting him, I quickly realized just how talented and respected he is in his field. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Meet sweet baby Amelia! She was an absolute dream during her newborn session—so smiley and full of sweetness. She slept soundly, letting us gently pose her, and was the perfect little model. Her parents were completely smitten, beaming with love and joy the entire time. It was such a pleasure capturing this special moment for their growing family! T.H. Zendaya was an absolute dream to photograph! She was calm, sweet, and full of the most precious expressions. From tiny smiles to curious looks, she gave us so many beautiful moments to capture. Her family adores her, and it’s easy to see why—she is already surrounded by so much love. Whitney: We actually had planned on naming her Delilah through the whole pregnancy.
