Interview with Kaitlyn McPherson - Rocking V Ranch - Class of 2023 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Kaitlyn’s session was amazing. We headed to Rocking V Ranch just outside of Auburn where she works part time and it was the perfect place for a shoot. We’ve shot there before and it’s always a beautiful location for our sessions so I was super excited to be there. Kaitlyn has a passion for horses and that was so much fun to have as part of her session. I truly loved shooting her session. She’s beautiful and so photogenic! Thanks for checking out her session. T.H. Peterson: Tell us about your horse and why is he special to you?

Kaitlyn: He’s special to me, because he is the reason I fell back in love with riding horses. and I’m grateful for Madison, letting me lease her horse the past few months.


T.H. P.: What do you do for fun?

Kaitlyn: Spending time with my daughter, Madilyn.

T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Kaitlyn: I can wiggle my ears!

T.H. P.: What are you looking forward to the most your senior year?

Kaitlyn: I’m looking forward to graduation.
T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school?

Kaitlyn: I plan to go to college to get a degree in either equine studies or a degree in elementary education.

T.H. P.: What is your favorite junk food?

Kaitlyn: Pizza

T.H. P.: What's your favorite thing about yourself?

Kaitlyn: My red hair.

T.H. P.: Favorite subject in school?

Kaitlyn: Social studies

T.H. P.: What was your favorite part of your session with us?

Kaitlyn: The funny comments someone would make to make me laugh/smile.

T.H. P.: Favorite movie from childhood?

Kaitlyn: The brave little toaster!

Now this was a special session! It's not often we photograph multiples for newborn sessions but these little girls were just perfect and despite them being born several months ago, because they were so premature they photographed just like brand new newborns! We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. Sadly the tulips are all gone however the lush greenery made a perfect backdrop anywhere we posed this adorable family! How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Diego? Destrie: I thought he was so cute and was also in total shock because I just had another baby! T.H. P.: How did you come up with his name? Destrie: I have always loved the name Diego, and so I knew when I had a second boy he would have that name. T.H. P.: What does big bro think? Destrie: His brother is in total awe of him. Always checking on him and making sure to say “what mister” anytime he cries.  T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us? What a handsome little guy! I loved photographing Declan and his session was just perfect! I especially loved capturing the details like his spikey hair. Totally adorable! Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. During our first moments together, she just stared at me and was so calm, I couldn’t have fallen more in love.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house?
