Small Business Showcase - J&W Construction, LLC and Freight Management Solutions - Auburn, KS

Recently, we posted that we're doing shoots for small businesses and Billie reached out to me wanting us to feature their business as part of our project. It was a blast. They're a great company and after hanging out with them for a while and reading the answers to their interview, it's very obvious they are wanting to grow their business! They are looking for quality employees who are eager to work for a good company. They have the work, they need employees!  I feel honored to have spent some time with them. Hope you enjoy this blog post and learn something about these guys in their interview. Thank you for checking it out!

T.H. Peterson: So you want two businesses. A trucking company and a construction company. Can you tell me a little bit about how you started both businesses.

Billie: We started the construction company in 2007. We started out building homes then the recession hit so we switched to building pole barns. Now we’re a general contractor and build both homes and pole barns.

We started the trucking company in 2020 when we saw that there weren’t enough drivers to move everything that needed to be transported. We haul general freight all over the Midwest.

T.H. P.: What is your main mission with each of your businesses?

Billie: Construction- Build a quality product but still make it affordable.

Trucking- get products moved in a timely manner to do our part in helping keep the country running smoothly.

T.H. P.: What are some of your future goals for each of your businesses?

Billie: Construction- to build 50-100 homes per year.

Trucking- to grow into a large fleet  with local and regional drivers and haul for more local companies. We do haul for some local companies already.

T.H. P.: How did you and your husband meet?

Billie: 20 years ago through mutual friends.

T.H. P.: Are your boys involved in the business? Do they have interest in what you do?

Billie: The boys are involved in both  businesses. They can run any machine you need them to and also get down and dirty with the manual labor. They can’t wait until they can get their CDL to drive the big stuff.

T.H. P.: What do you feel it’s something that makes your businesses stand out from others?

Billie: Construction- we have very friendly employees that pay attention to detail.

Trucking- we hire young drivers to grow with our company whereas big companies don’t like to hire the young drivers.

T.H. P.: I really enjoyed meeting your entire team. Everyone seem really friendly. Can you tell me a little bit about the people who work for you?

Billie: Construction- our foreman Wes has been with us from the beginning. He’s extremely knowledgeable in every aspect of his job and runs a great team! We’ve never had a customer meet him and not love him.

Trucking- we currently have 3 drivers. Our team drivers are Stevie & Angel. Their truck never really stops. When one is done driving the other takes over. The world needs more fearless girls.

T.H. P.: Any final words?

Billie: Both businesses have potential for a great career and make a good living. We need more young people in both trades because there aren’t enough.

Always Dream big and keep climbing toward your goals.

T.H. P.: Where are you located and how can people get a hold of you?

Billie: Both businesses are located in Auburn, KS. Both businesses are currently hiring.
