Aven's Perfect Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers


We really enjoyed meeting Aven and his mom when they came in for his newborn session.  He was sooo tiny, probably one of the tiniest newborns we have photographed.  His feet were almost bigger than he was!  He settled right away and slept the entire session, and he had so many amazing images!  We especially loved seeing him smile as his mom held him!  It was a great session, and we are so excited to share these with you!  Enjoy!


T.H. Peterson: How did you discover that you were going to have a baby?

Bailey: How I really found out is that my husband grabbed my breast and it was extremely sensitive, I pretty much knew right away. But if that needs to be left out, we had been trying for a few months and I decided to take a couple of tests over the course of a couple days since I had not got my period yet, and once I got a faint line dark enough that I was confident was positive, I told my husband by putting the test in his Chipotle bag. He was very much caught off guard but excited!


T.H. P.: What are some things that you craved throughout your pregnancy?

Bailey: I craved anything and everything sweet, specifically chocolate. I was not much of a sweets person prior to being pregnant so this was interesting!


T.H. P.: What did you think when you first saw Aven?

Bailey: We thought he looked like a little alien, but he was cute with his big eyes! l couldn't believe that he was what was inside my belly for 9 1/2 months.


T.H. P.: Name three baby items that you could not live without...

Bailey: Velcro swaddles, sound machine and my bedside bassinet!


T.H. P.: What was your favorite part of your session with us?

Bailey: Taking the few photos with Aven, specifically getting the one of him smiling. That one is my absolute favorite!

Baby Oakley was an absolute dream to photograph! This precious little girl, who looks just like her mama, was so calm and posed perfectly for us. Because she was so cooperative, we got to try new poses, props, and backdrops, making the session extra special. I had so much fun photographing Brody and Kiera, a pair of high school siblings who came to the studio for a just-for-fun session! Their bond was easy to see, laughing and teasing. They brought such a natural vibe to every shot. I love sessions like this that capture the joy of family without needing a special occasion. We also brought their hobbies into the session to show off their personalities. Kiera, a talented ballet dancer, posed with grace, while Brody, a baseball player, brought his sporty style. Meet Knox – the sweetest little guy! During his newborn session, he was such a joy to photograph. We used several adorable props and backdrops, and Knox gave us a little smile... basically we gushed over him! His expressions were so precious, showing off his personality even at such a young age. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Our session with Lainey was perfect. She was such a beautiful little model. We took her session with her family and her big brothers were adorable and a lot of fun. Clearly mom and dad are crazy about her. We were able to get lots of beautiful images! Here are just a few of our favorites! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Lainey? Laura: When I first saw Lainey I asked if she was still a girl (LOL) I have two boys and she is the first girl in the Worcester family in almost 19 years. Azaria’s senior session was one to remember! We braved the freezing cold, with snow covering the ground, to capture her love for softball. The golden hour sunset added a warm glow, making the field look magical. She brought along softball shirts from childhood and past teams, a special touch that told the story of her journey. Despite the cold, Azaria did amazing, smiling through every shot and showcasing her passion for the game. Her confidence and determination shone through, creating beautiful and meaningful photos. Erika and Brad are the sweetest family, and I loved photographing their newborn session. Their new baby, Luciana, has so much hair that I joked it looked like a wig! Her big sister, Addy, wasn’t too interested in the session, but we still managed to capture some really sweet moments of them together. Even though this was a quick session, we got some beautiful images of their little family. Newborn sessions are always special, but there’s something extra sweet about capturing those early days with a new baby. Luciana was so peaceful, and her tiny features were just perfect. Welcoming baby Ruby into the studio was such a joy! She was the sweetest little model, so peaceful and content throughout her session.
