Interview with Ava Runnebaum - Class of 2025 - Amazing sunset session - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Photographing Ava was a treat. She is so photogenic and every portrait of her was perfect! I had the honor of photographing her and her step brother Braiden at their beautiful property on the outskirts of Topeka. I'll be sharing his blog post shortly. She has the best smile, she knew how to pose and genuinely had a great time in the session, despite the humidity and climbing temps. It was hard narrowing down her session to our favorites but I think this post gives a nice collection of highlights from that day. Enjoy!

T.H. Peterson: What classes are you looking forward to your senior

year? 

Ava: I am looking forward to my TCA classes because they are all

medical based and that’s what I want to do when I grow up.

T.H. P.: What would you go back and tell your freshman self? 

Ava: I would tell my freshman self school gets hard but you have to push through it. Everything will eventually pass.

T.H. P.: You mentioned you dive and swim.  What are your proudest moments in that sport? 

Ava: My proudest moment is when I managed to concuss myself doing a front flip off the board. 

T.H. P.: Dream job? 

Ava: My dream job something within the cardiovascular specialties in the medical field because organs interest me, specifically the heart. 

T.H. P.: Something you liked about your shoot with us? 

Ava: During our shoot, I liked how you weren’t awkward and kept the shoot entertaining, your son was also funny.

T.H. P.: Are you a cat or dog person? 

Ava: I am usually a dog person but at the moment I like out barn cats more than our dogs.

T.H. P.: Least girliest thing about you? 

Ava: The least girliest thing about me is how I am able to get dirty and help out with the farm and I’m not afraid to do it. 

T.H. P.: What song are you obsessed with? 

Ava: The song I obsess the most over is There’s Your Trouble by The Dixie Chicks because I have been able to sing it word for word since 8th grade. 

T.H. P.: Describe your relationship with Braiden. 

Ava: Braiden was the first stepbrother I got the closest with, I definitely push his buttons but in the end he’s my favorite. 

T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident? Ava: Wearing clothes I’m comfortable in and makeup makes me feel confident because I am able to feel like myself.

Shawn Preston - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had a great time hanging out with Shawn. I love how his session turned out. We started at the gym to get some great basketball shots of him. He's clearly very passionate about playing and I love how these images really capture that. We then headed to Gage Park and downtown. What started off as a cloudy day ended in the perfect pink and blue sky; the afterglow of the sun setting was just incredible. A Country Celebration: Ryan and Abigail's Love-Filled Wedding at Circle S Ranch - Lawrence, KS Wedding

In May, I had the chance to photograph Ryan and Abigail at Circle S Ranch, just outside of Lawrence, KS. The place was totally country with beautiful rolling hills stretching as far as the eye could see. It was a sunny, warm day, and you could just feel the love in the air. Abigail is a strong and lovely woman with so much personality and beauty. Her smile could light up a room, and she radiated confidence. Ryan, on the other hand, is the sweetest, funniest, and most tender person you'll ever meet. His playful nature and kind heart made it clear why Abigail fell for him. The moment Abigail came out for their first look was unforgettable. Ryan was in tears, overwhelmed by his love for her. They decided to exchange their vows privately, away from the crowd, which made the moment even more intimate and touching. The way they looked at each other during their vows was heartwarming. Charlie was the perfect little model. Just look at her face! She is so cute and weather she was sound asleep or awake, she had the best expression! Interview with Noah Robinson - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had a short amount of time with Noah and he had a lot of ideas, I was so excited! He's all country. Fishing, hunting, American Flag, dirtbikes and trucks. I was pretty much in heaven. I knew his session was going to be awesome. I also love his property, it's a great place to shoot. Noah's a little quiet but very photogenic and I could tell he had a great time! I love how these came out. Shooting on a bright and sunny day is one way to get really rich colors from the sky and landscape and I think they were the perfect backdrop for his session. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Miss Maddox Jolene - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Maddox is such a perfect baby! Her features are just precious and she was such a good model for us! So chill and happy. It was a lot of fun and we tried out some new poses with her and she did great! I loved the different expressions she gave us. She was truly a blessing to work with! Here's a few of our favorites and an interview with mom. Lots of fun! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Maddox?  Mariah: I was in total awe when I first saw Maddox. I couldn’t believe I had created this beautiful, perfect, little baby child. T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name?  Mariah: My grandma, my mom, and myself all have names that start with “M” so I knew if I ever had a daughter that she would need an “M” name too. I have always loved the name Maddox, especially for a girl! I was afraid to suggest it to my husband because I loved it so much and I didn’t want him to void the name 😅 he also loved it! Interview with Braiden Beninga - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Braiden was fun to hang out with. I liked his personality and his sense of humor. He's a smart young man and I enjoyed spending time with him. I liked his subtle humor. He wasn't trying to be funny the whole time but he had me laughing nonetheless. I could tell he enjoyed the session and hanging out with his sister. They make a fun group. It was a muggy day, and I could tell they were being patient with the heat and in the end we got some amazing images. We were blessed with an incredible sunset.
