Rory's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Rory is such a beautiful baby, and we’ve had the joy of photographing her family many times. She came in with her eyes wide open and gave us the cutest expressions from the very beginning. She was calm, curious, and so easy to work with. Her mom, dad, and big sister adore her, and you could feel all that love in the room. Babies grow so quickly, and being able to capture these tiny details and sweet moments felt really special.

We also got some of the sweetest photos of Rory with her big sister, Ari. Watching them together was adorable, and those little sister moments are something their parents will cherish forever. From soft snuggles to curious looks, the connection between them showed in every image. I’m so thankful we were able to capture this milestone for their family and give them photos they’ll love for years to come.

T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Aurora?
Brooke: We thought she was absolutely precious and prayed she would do well.

T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name?
Brooke:  Austin wanted A names, so that was one he came up with. Aurora Borealis is where it comes from, and he later learned that it's also Sleeping Beauty's name, which is perfect for her. I just loved the nickname "Rory" and thought it went well with her sister's nickname "Ari".
T.H. P.: What does Ari think?
Brooke: Ari is absolutely obsessed with her, and wants to love her maybe a bit too aggressively.
T.H. P.: Something you liked about your shoot with us?
Brooke: We loved that the girls' personality really came out with the shoot. Ari is very photogenic and it is easy to get a range of orneriness from her.
T.H. P.: How is life getting used to a new baby in the house?
Brooke: Life is very different now that we have Rory. We are adjusting to her needs and some days are better than others. We are thankful to finally have her at home with us. She has taken everything like a champ and has the chill personality that her sister does not!

Interview with Coby Branson - SFT Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had such a great time photographing Coby for his senior session! I’ve photographed him a few times over the years, so it was really special to capture this milestone for him. Coby goes to Santa Fe Trail and plays baseball, and he’s just a really good guy—confident, down-to-earth, and easy to be around. We started part of his session on their property and then headed to a farm just north of Scranton. The views out there were amazing, and it felt like everything lined up perfectly for us. He really wanted a sunset for his senior photos, and wow, did we get one! The golden hour light that evening was absolutely stunning—the kind of sunset I rarely get to see. We even had the tallest hill in Osage City as the backdrop for part of the shoot, which made it extra unique. The colors, the light, and Coby’s relaxed personality all came together perfectly. I was so excited to photograph Austin for his senior session! I’ve had the pleasure of photographing him and his family for many years, and it was such a joy to see him step into this milestone. Just like his older brother and sister, we started on the family property, capturing beautiful images by the pond and around the barns. Austin is incredibly photogenic, and his easygoing personality made every shot feel natural. I especially loved the sunrise photos at the pond—the light coming over the trees created such a magical, peaceful mood that really made the session stand out. We also made sure to capture Austin doing what he loves, so we headed to his football and baseball fields at school. We had such a great time photographing Maddie for her senior session! She’s a senior at Topeka West, super friendly, and so easy to photograph. We started downtown and got some really beautiful shots there. Even in the middle of the city, the sunlight came through just right and made her hair glow. She looked absolutely stunning in those sunlit photos! After downtown, we headed to a few spots near the Governor’s Mansion where the light was just perfect. The sun shining through the leaves and tall grass gave everything this warm, golden feel that looked amazing. Maddie was a total natural in front of the camera and made the whole session fun. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

I had the pleasure of photographing Cash, a senior at Topeka High. We met in front of the school and started his session with some dramatic shots in front of the building, as well as some really cool photos with the Trojan statue. Cash is part of the Drumline, and you can see his confidence and personality in every photo. I especially loved the awesome track suits that the drumline gets to use. It inspired me to make some like that for our business! He’s very photogenic and personable, and we had a lot of fun capturing his session. His mom was there, too, and she was a blast to hang out with. Some of the highlights from Cash’s session were the amazing fall colors—we were lucky to catch the peak of the foliage. Ryan’s senior session was such an awesome one! We started downtown and even made our way up to a parking garage that overlooked Topeka — the view was incredible. We made sure to include some shots with his car, which looked great against the city backdrop. After that, we headed out to the country just in time for sunset, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The fall colors were glowing, and the light was absolutely beautiful. Ryan has such a great smile and an easygoing personality that made the whole session a blast. Raven’s senior session was such a blast! We met up in Topeka and explored a few different locations that showed off the gorgeous fall colors. The leaves, the light, and Raven’s energy all came together perfectly. She’s one of those people who instantly makes you feel comfortable — so outgoing, so easy to talk to, and just full of personality. Every pose, every smile felt natural with her, and it made the whole session fly by way too fast. When it came time to show her photos, I couldn’t wait. There were just so many great shots of her! Raven has this expressive, genuine smile that lights up every image, and honestly, I don’t think she has a bad angle.
