The Lenz's come to Topeka! Lenz Photography in Kansas! Spent the week and then we did a lil shoot of just them!

Last week, our friends Philip and Alexandra Lenz of Lenz Photography came all the way from Knoxville, TN to shoot some of their Iconic Portraits right here in Topeka!!! They were able to create some amazing images for our clients and as always it was a lot of fun to see them again. I always appreciate being able to spend time with them. They are extremely talented and creative and it's great for photographers to have friends in the industry they can spend time with and be creative together with. I decided considering that we were shooting mid day and no lights, we should take things downtown and do a shoot there. They brought their pups and I especially loved their bowties. Too cute. Check out some of my favorites.

They have been practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over a year and have been obsessed with it ever since. In fact, they were fans of it for a lot longer than that. They are as passionate about BJJ as they are about photography.

This is actually one of my favorite images. I love the way Philip is staring at Alexandra. The love is real y'all.

I hope they never lose their silly side. It's one of the things about them I love so much.

Interview with Sam Wainwright - Mission Valley Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Sam’s senior session was a blast! We started at Cedar Lawn Farms and then headed over to the shop where he works. From there, we got out into the hayfield with tractors and equipment, which was perfect for him. Sam is studying diesel technology this year, and it’s pretty obvious that he loves what he does. He’s got a real passion for big machinery, and we had a great time working that into his senior pictures. One thing I noticed right away about Sam was how funny he is. His quick wit and smart responses kept me on my toes, and that doesn’t happen very often! He said his friends describe him as funny, and I can absolutely see why. He even said he enjoyed the comedy during his session, which makes sense because we were throwing just as many jokes at him as he was at us. Honestly, he has the kind of humor you’d expect from someone who’s been around a lot longer, with just enough sarcasm to keep things interesting. Sam is a smart kid, a hard worker, and someone I really enjoyed getting to...

Interview with Lilli Ellerman - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Lilli is one of those people who just makes you happy to be around her. The first thing I noticed about her was her smile, and from that moment on, her energy and happiness were contagious. She is such a beautiful young lady, inside and out, and photographing her was an absolute blast. There wasn't a single part of her session that I wasn't enjoying. She has a natural way of coming to life in front of the camera, knows her angles, and with just a little guidance, she absolutely shines. You can tell she's passionate about the things she does, and I have no doubt that energy and drive are going to take her far in life. I feel so honored that I had the chance to meet her and photograph her senior portraits! We started her session at the Capitol, then headed to a spot with overgrown grass that was absolutely perfect as the sun started to set. We finished at Shawnee Lake, where the sun on the water gave us one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever had the chance to photogr...

Brynn and Justin's amazing day - Divine Vineyard & Venue - St George, Kansas

Image
Brynn and Justin’s wedding in St. George, Kansas, just outside of Manhattan in the beautiful Flint Hills, was absolutely incredible. Driving up to Divine Vineyard & Venue, I was already excited, but when I arrived, I was blown away by how beautiful everything was. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining, and the entire venue was gorgeous from every angle. It was the kind of day you couldn't have planned any better. And then there was Brynn, who looked absolutely beautiful, and Justin and Brynn together were just so happy. You could tell how much they love each other, and seeing them enjoy every moment of their special day was something I won't soon forget. What really made this wedding stand out, though, was the love that filled the entire day. Their family and friends were so supportive, and you could tell everyone was genuinely happy to be there celebrating Brynn and Justin. There were happy tears, lots of laughter, hugs, incredible food, and so many special moments....

Interview with Kelton Meier - Hayden High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Kelton was such a cool guy to work with! He’s a down-to-earth, athletic senior who loves competition. Between discus, javelin, shot put, and bowling, he definitely has plenty of things to keep him busy. He’s especially passionate about track and field and bowling, and we wanted to make sure his session showed off some of that personality. We started out with his javelin, headed downtown for some different looks, and then finished things off with a suit and tie for a more dressed-up style. I really liked how creative his session turned out! One thing we won't forget about Kelton's session is how quickly the weather changed. We went from bright sunshine to pouring rain in just a matter of minutes! Thankfully, we were able to get some killer shots before the rain really came down. More than anything, I really enjoyed hanging out with Kelton. He was humble, friendly, and just an all-around great guy to be around. After meeting his mom, I can see where he gets that personality! It w...

Interview with Myles Krahe - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Myles's senior session was an absolute blast! We started at his home with his four young calves, and they were about as adorable as they could be. From there, we headed out to a field where we captured some portraits with his truck and an American flag. There was something really iconic about that setting, and it made for some beautiful images. We finished up along the Kansas River just as the sun was setting, and I honestly couldn't believe how beautiful the light was reflecting off the water. It was the perfect place to wrap up the evening and showcase Myles's passion for baseball. Myles  is an awesome young man with a great personality, a fantastic smile, and he's just naturally photogenic. We had so much fun throughout the session, and it seemed like the time just flew by. I'll admit, earlier in the day I was a little concerned about the weather forecast and wasn't sure what we were going to end up with. But it turned out to be absolutely perfect! Great weat...

Interview with Kaleb Baum - SFT Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Kaleb is one of those guys who makes my job easy! He's super nice, handsome, and about as photogenic as they come. We started his senior session at his home, taking advantage of some spots around his property before heading to downtown Carbondale and then Osage Lake. Kaleb attends Santa Fe Trail and wrestles, so we had a lot of different ways to show off his personality and interests throughout his session. We finished up with a few more photos around Scranton before heading into the studio to wrap things up. I love being able to give seniors this much variety in their photos, and Kaleb's session was a great example of that. Whether he was giving me a serious look or smiling for the camera, he nailed it every time. I don't think this guy has a bad angle! I absolutely love how his photos turned out, and I had a great time working with him. T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school? Kaleb: To join the military T.H. P.: Dream job? Kaleb: Firefighter T.H. P.: Fa...

Interview with Maddie Vickery - Washburn Rural Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Maddie was such a sweet girl and just an absolute pleasure to photograph. Basketball is a huge part of her life, and she has committed to play basketball at K-State after she graduates, which is pretty awesome. We had a lot of fun with her senior session because she brought a really cool variety of outfits. Every outfit gave us a completely different look, and we were able to get some really great images downtown before heading out to a more country setting. Maddie was just really easy to photograph. She had a great smile, great expressions, and honestly, I don't think she has a bad angle. By the time we got out to the country, the skies were just incredible. The weather was beautiful, and everything just came together. We were able to make some really striking, dramatic images, and I really loved how her whole session turned out. Maddie was so much fun to work with, and I'm really glad we got to be a part of this for her. I honestly feel honored that she trusted me to photogra...

How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Image
Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Interview with Hunter Kennedy - Washburn Rural Class of 2027 - Toepka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Hunter’s senior session was an awesome one! We really got to showcase his personality and his passion for firearms. We started at Echo Cliff, did some photos on his property, and then headed to Forbes Field to photograph with the tanks. The skies were dramatic that day, which made the perfect backdrop for his session. Hunter brought along several guns from his collection, and it was great getting to see them and work them into his photos. I really feel like Hunter’s session had a dramatic look to it, from the lighting and posing to the locations and subject matter. He was great to work with, and I enjoyed getting to know him during the session and through his senior interview. He’s a cool dude, and I can tell he’s a bright young man with a lot of potential and a bright future ahead of him. It was a fun session, and I think we came away with some really great images that fit him perfectly! T.H. Peterson: Plans after high school? Hunter: Join the Navy like my father. T.H. P.: Dream job?...

Interview with Skyler Tolin - Class of 2026 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Image
Skylar’s senior session was an absolute blast! We headed downtown and made the most of a parking garage and the alleys behind it, and wow—what a perfect setting for her personality to shine. Skylar is such a sweet young lady, so smart and photogenic, and she brought her beautiful smile and infectious laugh to every shot. From the very beginning, we just clicked, and it made the whole session flow so naturally. She was completely engaged and excited about the process, which made capturing her true self so easy and so much fun! We really wanted to highlight what she loves, so we focused on her sports—basketball and volleyball—and those images turned out stunning. And let’s talk about her hair for a second—it was like it had its own glam team! Every time the wind hit just right, it gave us those perfect fashion-shoot vibes, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Skylar, you crushed this session, and I can’t wait for you to see how amazing these photos turned out! T.H. Peterson: What are your p...
