Interview with Haven Kmiec - Shawnee Heights - Class of 2019 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

  
I've met and photographed Haven before but one thing I loved about shooting Haven's session was when we showed up, she walked out with a big smile on her face and it was just a relaxed, fun time. She kept her smile the whole time. Haven's idea for her session was to be all country at a friend's property and I absolutely loved it. All the classic things you'd want for a rustic session, this place had.  Fences, tall grass, beautiful sunlight, wild flowers, old buildings near by. This place had it all and I couldn't have been happier. The afternoon was amazingly beautiful. I'm thrilled with the results. Thanks for checking it out and hope you enjoy!
T.H. Peterson: What do you like most about going to Shawnee Heights?
Haven: Teachers and coaches that have pushed me everyday.
T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school?
Haven: Go to college to study veterinary medicine.
T.H. P.: What is something that you would like to do during your senior year? A goal for yourself?
Haven: Step outside my comfort zone and try new things.
T.H. P.: Where would you go on vacation if time and money were no object?
Haven: Bora Bora.
T.H. P.: Best place to get desert in Topeka?
Haven: Hazel Hill.
T.H. P.: How long have you rode horses? Favorite thing about it?
Haven: 6 years, my favorite thing about it would have to be knowing that I can fearlessly trust a 1,200+ pound animal with my life.
T.H. P.: What was your favorite part of your session with us?
Haven: The ability to make me laugh and not make me feel awkward.
T.H. P.: What movie reminds you of your childhood?
Haven: Where the Red Fern Grows.
T.H. P.: Best advice your mom ever gave you?
Haven: You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.
T.H. P.: What kind of music relaxes you?
Haven: Old country music.

Lorren’s senior session was such a fun one! We started the morning at the sunflower fields at Shively Farms, and we could not have asked for a better morning. The sun was coming up, the light was beautiful, and best of all, we had the entire place to ourselves. We were able to capture some absolutely gorgeous sunrise images surrounded by the sunflowers. Lorren is so photogenic, and she made my job easy with her beautiful smile, natural expressions, and willingness to try whatever poses we wanted. After the sunflower fields, we headed to Shawnee Lake and then downtown for even more variety. Lorren brought 2 outfits that looked fantastic on her, and each one gave us a different look. Interview with Haven Ellenburg - Shawnee Heights High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Haven's senior session was one of those evenings where everything just came together. We started at Shawnee Heights High School on the softball field since that's where she's spent so much of her time. She was so easy to photograph from the beginning. She has a GREAT smile, a fun personality, and she's completely comfortable in front of the camera. Her mom came along too, and it was fun having her there cheering Haven on and getting excited every time we found another great spot. After the ball field, we made our way to the Governor's Mansion and then finished the evening at Kaw River Park. The sunset could not have been any better. The sky looked almost unreal and the water made the perfect backdrop for her portraits. We spent the evening talking about school,  plans after graduation, and just enjoying the beautiful weather. Interview with Addy Crouch - Shawnee Heights Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had so much fun photographing Addy for her senior portraits! We started at Shawnee Heights High School with some cheer photos, and she absolutely crushed them. She nailed every jump and pose, which was honestly impressive because we usually have to repeat a few of those shots to get just the right one. Mom mentioned that Addy also dances, and that definitely made sense once we started taking photos. She was so natural in front of the camera and had the sweetest smiles and expressions from the very beginning. After SHHS, we headed over to Iliff Commons for the rest of her session. As we spent more time together, we got to see more of Addy's personality come out. She's a funny girl, made us smile. Interview with Jared Heuertz - Oskaloosa High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Jared was such a fun senior to photograph! We actually photographed him during a couple of different sessions, and each one gave us something completely different. We started early one morning at Crooked Post Winery where he works. There we were treated to a beautiful sunrise and some awesome weather. The vineyard made the perfect backdrop for his session, and from there we headed to the lake and then to his house, finding awesome locations and opportunities for photos everywhere we went. We finished up with some pictures with his dogs; the perfect way to end the morning! For his second session, we headed to his high school to capture some of the things that are a huge part of Jared's life: football and baseball. Jared puts a ton of time and energy into his athletics, so getting those photos around his school and on the field was really important. I had the chance to photograph Ayden, a Washburn Rural senior, and even though this was a shorter session than usual, we captured some truly amazing images. We started at Washburn Rural, where we highlighted his passion for football. Ayden was relaxed, easygoing, and brought a great smile to every shot. Right from the beginning, it felt like everything came together naturally. After that, we headed downtown to one of my favorite grungy spots, and Ayden was up for anything. Interview with Isaiah Withers - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

When I first met Isaiah, it was obvious he takes his training seriously. He's a senior at Seaman High School and spends a lot of time powerlifting at Joe's Gym, a small backyard garage gym where everyone feels like family. Even though senior pictures probably weren't at the top of his list of favorite things to do, he was up for anything we suggested and made the whole session easy. He's a genuinely nice, down-to-earth guy, and it didn't take long before we were laughing and having a good time. One of my favorite parts was watching him actually lift during the session instead of just pretending. I joked that he got a workout in while getting his senior photos. After the gym, we headed to Isaiah's house to finish the session. We spent some time in his yard, and the sunset put on an incredible show for us. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Interview with Landon DeVader - St Mary's High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Landon's senior session took us to the countryside just south of Rossville near Willard, Kansas, (not far from his high school in St. Marys)  and it ended up being one of those evenings that photographers hope for. We had the most beautiful sunset, a quiet river,   dirt roads, and fields of tall overgrown grass. At first glance, it might not seem like a location with a lot of variety, but that's part of the fun. I love finding creative ways to make a simple location feel unique, and I think we did exactly that. Every stop gave us a different look, and by the end of the session it felt like we had photographed in several completely different places. Even better, everything fit Landon perfectly. Zariah from Highland Park High School was awesome to photograph! She came with some really great ideas, and we had a lot of fun getting creative with her session. We started at the studio in the mall, where we were able to capture some really unique images that showed off her personality and style. Zariah has an incredible smile, and she made my job pretty easy because she simply could not take a bad photo! We finished up at Kaw River Park, and the sunset could not have been better. Interview with Chloe Fox - Topeka West Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Chloe was so much fun to photograph. We started her senior session around TPAC and some of downtown Topeka before heading over to the Governor's Mansion. We wrapped everything up at Kaw River State Park where she actually got in the water  and those ended up being some of my fav photos from the day. Chloe is a dancer and plays clarinet in band  but more than anything she's just a genuinely nice, easygoing person. It honestly felt like the session was over almost as soon as it started. One thing I kept noticing throughout her session was her smile. Most seniors know how to smile for a camera, and Chloe definitely did, but every now and then she'd laugh at something we'd say or just have one of those real moments.
