Small Business Showcase - Sweat Equity - (Personal Training & Fitness Classes) Topeka, KS

Our latest Small Business Showcase on our blog is a gym called Sweat Equity. As you may know, we’ve been doing these shoots for small businesses and it’s been a blast. We’ve met lots of people and really had a great time working with small business owners on putting together these spotlights that really show off what each business does and why they are finding success in their field. Hannah and Ryan were super fun and great to talk to. I liked their gym and I feel it’s a close knit group of people from all walks of life who want to find a path to a healthy life. Thanks for checking out their shoot! If you own a small business and would like us to do a feature on your business, reach out to our page! We’re doing these free of charge.

T.H. Peterson: Tell me a little bit about how you got started with Sweat Equity? How did you come up with the concept and the name?

Ryan & Hannah: We both at a bigger gym and we wanted start something with a more intimate, family feel to it.  Our name Sweat Equity has the meaning of improving/adding value to something through physical work.

T.H. P.: How did you and Hannah meet?

Ryan & Hannah: We met at the bigger gym we worked at.  We knew each

other for quite awhile before we started dating.

T.H. P.: Does she do one part of the business and you do another or do you guys pretty much all do the same thing?

Ryan & Hannah: Primarily Hannah teaches the boxing class & Ryan teaches the Sweat Sesh class.  We both can and do occasional teach the other class.  We are in the process of expanding and will be adding Yoga to our class schedule which will be taught by someone we are bringing in.

T.H. P.: What is your favorite part of training people?

Hannah:  Helping people become the best version of themselves and building relationships.  Ryan- Seeing people succeed in reaching goals they’ve set and the relationships I’ve built with clients who’ve become close friends.

T.H. P.: Do you and Hannah like to work out together?

Ryan & Hannah: We do enjoy working out together but honestly since we’ve opened our own place it happens a lot less 😢.

T.H. P.: What are both of your personal favorite workouts to do and your least favorite?

Hannah:  I enjoy lifting legs & back.  I also enjoy HIIT cardio.  My least favorite is lifting chest.  Ryan- I enjoy all lifting/resistance training and probably my least favorite would be steady state cardio (I don’t hate it, it just takes a little more talking myself into it 😂).

T.H. P.: What have you found to be good marketing for your business?

Ryan & Hannah: So far, the best has been word of mouth and social media.

T.H. P.: There are a lot of gyms and personal trainers in Topeka. Sell me! Why should people choose your gym?

Ryan & Hannah: We genuinely care about our Sweat Equity family and want them to succeed.  It’s not just us though, it’s everyone

who comes in that wants you to succeed too.  We’ve chosen this line of work to make a living because we love it, not because we thought we could get rich.

T.H. P.: Where are you located and how can people get a hold of you?

Ryan & Hannah: We are located at 911 SW 37th st Topeka KS.  We can be reached at or through Facebook/Instagram. Or call us at (785) 274-9507.

T.H. P.: This is a fun question. This is for both of you. What are your favorite junk foods?

Hannah:  Peanut butter Snickers, sour patch kids and mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Ryan: Not sure we have time for this list lol.  I’ll keep it as short as possible, Tacos, cheeseburgers, and any gummy candy.

T.H. P.: Last question. Is Kyndall your mascot?

Ryan & Hannah: LOL YES, we are pretty sure she’s the main reason people keep coming back.

T.H. P.: What's one fitness or nutrition tip you could give that you think the average person could benefit from?

Hannah: Start small, stay consistent, and never give up. Ryan- Consistency is key because motivation comes and goes.  Don’t overwhelm yourself in the beginning, start small and add on from there.
