Lovelyn's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers
There are sessions that just feel special from the start, and Lovelyn was one of those babies. She was so sweet, so cute, and had the most calm, mild-mannered personality. She made my job easy with her adorable little expressions and how relaxed she was through most of the session. Toward the end she got a little fussy, but even then she was still so good. It’s always amazing how much personality can already show up in such a tiny little human, and Lovelyn definitely had it.
What made this session even more meaningful for me was getting to photograph Hunter again—this time as a mom. I took her senior portraits several years ago, and now here she is with a baby of her own. That’s one of the things I love most about what I do, getting to be part of these moments as life comes full circle. I’m really excited to share these images—these are some of my favorites, and I’m so thankful I got to create these memories for her.
T.H. Peterson: How did you come up with Lovelyn’s name?
Hunter: I heard her name years ago and instantly fell in love with it. I spent most of my pregnancy thinking I would name her Gracyn Elizabeth, but I just couldn’t get Lovelyn out of my head. That’s when I finally knew—her name was meant to be Lovelyn Eliza.
T.H. P.: What did you think when you first saw her?
Hunter: When I saw her for the first time, I felt so many emotions all at once. It was a love I had never experienced before. My mom actually got to help deliver her, which made the moment even more special.
T.H. P.: Hardest part of pregnancy?
Hunter: The last several weeks were the hardest. I developed severe preeclampsia and had to be induced at 36 weeks and 5 days. Before that decision was made, I was beyond miserable—extremely swollen, constantly exhausted from the extra weight, and dealing with frequent headaches. I’m so grateful my sweet girl arrived safely and that we’re both healthy.
T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?
Hunter: The session was definitely bittersweet. Tommy did my senior pictures and also photographed me back in 2016 after I was diagnosed with cancer, before I shaved my hair. So seeing him now taking pictures of my little girl was special on a whole different level.
T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house?
Hunter: Life with a new baby has been chaotic and exhausting, but we’re adapting more every day. I wouldn’t trade this new life for anything.
