Interview with Cade Danielson - Washburn Rural Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

One of the first things that stood out to me about Cade was just how easy he was to be around. He has a great personality, an awesome smile, and he was one of those seniors who was comfortable in front of the camera from the start. He's a football player at Washburn Rural High School, and I don't think we ever had a hard time getting natural expressions from him. He was always smiling and laughing, which made my job pretty easy.

We started his session out at the ball field, which was the perfect place to capture that part of who he is. After that, we headed downtown and ended up with a completely different look. I always like mixing locations like that because it gives seniors a lot more variety, and Cade pulled off every look really well.

One thing I couldn't help but notice was his bright red hair. At one point the sun was shining through it from behind, and I joked that it looked like it was on fire. Later, when I read through his questionnaire, he mentioned that his red hair is actually what makes him feel confident. I thought that was pretty cool, and honestly, he should be confident. It definitely makes him stand out.

Talking with Cade, it wasn't hard to see how excited he is for his senior football season. After high school, he hopes to continue playing football, and I have no doubt he'll give everything he has this season. He's also the kind of student who works hard in the classroom and strives to earn A's, which says a lot about his character.

By the end of the session, it felt like we'd known each other longer than a couple of hours. Cade is friendly, personable, easy to talk to, and just someone you'd enjoy being around. Sessions like his are always a reminder that the best photos come from letting someone's personality shine through, and I think that's exactly what happened w Cade!

T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?
Cade: After high school I want to continue playing football.

T.H. P.: How excited are you for football season?
Cade: I am extremely excited to play my senior season of football!
T.H. P.: What was something you liked about your session with us?
Cade: I enjoyed the funny jokes you'd say behind the camera to make me smile naturally.
T.H. P.: What's your favorite thing about playing football, and what's the hardest part?
Cade: My favorite thing about playing football is getting the opportunity to hit people without consequences. The hardest part is having to go up against bigger linemen that can move.
T.H. P.: Who is your favorite pro football player?
Cade: My favorite pro football player is Aaron Donald or T.J. Watt.
T.H. P.: What's your favorite thing your mom cooks?
Cade: My favorite thing that my mom cooks is her lasagna.
T.H. P.: Do you and your dad work out together?
Cade: When football is not in season, yes, I work out with my dad often. We push each other.
T.H. P.: What's the last movie you saw, and what did you think of it?
Cade: The most recent movie that I watched was Sinners, and I thought the movie was pretty good.

T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident?
Cade: Something that makes me feel confident is my red hair.

T.H. P.: What kind of student are you?
Cade: I am a good student that strives to get A's in every class.

John and April's beautiful day! Incredible Wedding Celebration at Liquid Art Winery - Manhattan, KS

John and April’s wedding at Liquid Art Winery was something special from start to finish. Set against rolling hills and the vineyard, the whole day had this calm, beautiful feel to it. It was cloudy in the best way—soft light, perfect for photos, and just an all-around ideal day for a wedding. Then right at the end of the night, the sun came out and gave us the most gorgeous golden light to wrap everything up. What stood out most was just how loved John and April are. You could feel it in every moment—friends and family showing up big for them, celebrating them, and surrounding them with so much support. Every detail of the day was dialed in. The food was incredible—brisket, salad, veggies—all so good. They even brought in local small businesses for cookies and ice cream, which was such a fun and thoughtful touch. Interview with Kennedy Gatewood - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Kennedy's senior session was one of those sessions that reminds me why I love photographing seniors so much. She attends Seaman High School, and from the moment we started, she was absolutely incredible in front of the camera. Her outfits were stunning, and she has such a vibrant personality that every location felt completely different. We ended up doing a longer senior sessions, which isn't something we do very often, but it gave us the opportunity to visit several different locations and create an amazing amount of variety. Instead of spending a long time in one place, we kept moving, and every stop gave us something new and unique. My favorite part of the session was our trip to Lake Wabaunsee. We photographed at the waterfall, the flooded road, and the beach, and every single location seemed to give us another incredible backdrop. Chloe was so much fun to photograph. We started her senior session around TPAC and some of downtown Topeka before heading over to the Governor's Mansion. We wrapped everything up at Kaw River State Park where she actually got in the water  and those ended up being some of my fav photos from the day. Chloe is a dancer and plays clarinet in band  but more than anything she's just a genuinely nice, easygoing person. It honestly felt like the session was over almost as soon as it started. One thing I kept noticing throughout her session was her smile. Most seniors know how to smile for a camera, and Chloe definitely did, but every now and then she'd laugh at something we'd say or just have one of those real moments. Tanner had an awesome session in downtown Topeka for his senior shoot!  It had been raining on and off an on all week, but we were able to capture some amazing images when the sun was out!  He finished up his session at his favorite place to be, the baseball field. Amber and Matt's amazing and unique day! Abe and Jake's Landing - Lawrence, KS

Amber and Matt’s wedding at Abe and Jake’s Landing in Lawrence, Kansas, was such a beautiful celebration. From the moment I arrived, it was clear how much love and respect they have for each other. The smiles, the tears, the laughter, and all the warm hugs made the day feel so full of emotion. They looked absolutely amazing, and their beautiful family added even more joy to the day. It was one of those weddings that just felt special from start to finish. One of the most unique parts of their wedding was the live cover band from Kansas City playing Talking Heads songs — such a fun and unexpected twist! There was a lot to like about Jonah's senior session. He's a very photogenic guy with a great personality, and we had a lot of fun exploring several different locations around Topeka. We started at the library, made our way to the Kansas State Capitol, and finished up with some great urban looks on Kansas Avenue. Since Jonah is a huge history fan, those locations were a perfect fit. We also made sure to include his trumpet, and those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire session. As we talked throughout the evening, we discovered we both enjoyed movies and pop culture, and once that conversation got going, it really brought Jonah out of his shell. Rhett's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Meeting baby Rhett was such a joy. He was one of the smiliest newborns I've ever photographed! We see plenty of sweet little smirks during newborn sessions, but Rhett gave us big, genuine smiles that looked like he was dreaming about something absolutely hilarious. He was so relaxed and content the entire session, making it easy to capture so many precious moments. Mom, Dad, and his big sister joined him, and it was obvious right away how much love fills this family. One of my favorite parts of the session was watching Rhett's big sister with him. Mom told me she absolutely adores her little brother and even thinks of him as "her baby," and she definitely proved it. Brayden and his family made the trip down from Omaha for his senior session, even though they're originally from the Topeka area. We actually had to split his session into two days because it started raining during the first one. At the time it was a little disappointing, but it ended up working out for the best. We were able to photograph in several completely different locations, from downtown streets and a grungy industrial look to beautiful architecture and finally the Kansas River. The extra time gave us even more variety, and I couldn't be happier with how everything turned out. Brayden was so easy to photograph. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...
