Interview with Jonah Tevis - Topeka West Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

There was a lot to like about Jonah's senior session. He's a very photogenic guy with a great personality, and we had a lot of fun exploring several different locations around Topeka. We started at the library, made our way to the Kansas State Capitol, and finished up with some great urban looks on Kansas Avenue. Since Jonah is a huge history fan, those locations were a perfect fit. We also made sure to include his trumpet, and those ended up being some of my favorite images from the entire session. As we talked throughout the evening, we discovered we both enjoyed movies and pop culture, and once that conversation got going, it really brought Jonah out of his shell. He already had a great personality, but it was fun to see him become even more comfortable in front of the camera.

We wrapped up the evening at his grandma's house, which made the session even more meaningful. It's always special when seniors choose a location that has personal significance, and it gave us a completely different look while telling a little more of Jonah's story. From the historic locations around town to the sentimental stop at the end of the session, everything came together to create a gallery that really reflects who Jonah is. Great session Jonah!

T.H. Peterson: Plans after high school?
Jonah: I want to go to K-State and major in Political Science and minor in Economics.

T.H. P.: Dream job?
Jonah: I want to become a politician.
T.H. P.: Last movie you saw, what did you think of it?
Jonah: The Odyssey. I thought it was alright, but some of the creative choices weren’t the best in my opinion.
T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?
Jonah: It was great talking with him about movies we’ve seen and other pop culture topics.
T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident?
Jonah: Making sure I smell good.
T.H. P.: What could you easily become an expert on?
Jonah: Gunsmithing.
T.H. P.: How would friends describe you?
Jonah: They’d probably say annoying, but I’d like to think they’d say I’m funny.
T.H. P.: What do you enjoy about band the most?
Jonah: Probably just getting to hang out with my friends.
T.H. P.: Best book on history you ever read?
Jonah: Blackshirts and Red by Michael Parenti.
T.H. P.: Why is history so fascinating to you?
Jonah: Because I love learning about the people who came before me and the amazing things they did.
T.H. P.: Favorite genre of history and what history period do you find least interesting?
Jonah: I prefer American history, but I couldn’t care less for ancient history—besides Ancient Rome.

Bre and Trent’s wedding day was such a beautiful celebration. They were married at St. John Vianney Church in St. Marys, a church well known for its beautiful Latin Mass. Parker Turner - Washburn Rural Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I knew pretty quickly that Parker’s senior session was going to be a good one. We started at Washburn Rural High School in the room where he trains for wrestling, so we had some fun working the wrestling theme into his photos with some different poses and shots. Parker has a lot of confidence, and it was great seeing that personality come out in front of the camera. From there, we headed downtown and made stops at the Capitol and one of my favorite graffiti spots, where we got some really killer shots. We finished up at a parking garage just in time for an amazing sunset. The light was incredible, but honestly, Parker made my job pretty easy because he was so comfortable in front of the camera. Interview with Talan Robertson - Washburn Rural Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Talan is one of those seniors who clearly loves baseball. A lot of athletes who are naturally gifted end up playing several sports, but Talan has really put his focus into baseball. You can tell how much he loves the game when you talk to him. We started his session at Washburn Rural, then headed to the Governor’s Mansion and finished up down along the Kansas River. He brought great energy to the whole session. He was excited about everything we were doing, easy to talk to, and just a really fun guy to photograph. He is also very photogenic and has one of those smiles that makes my job pretty easy. One of the things I really enjoyed was getting his guitar into the session. Interview with Maddy Hladky - Washburn Rural High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had a great time photographing Maddy for her senior session at Gage Park and the Rose Garden. It was interesting because I don't normally get a request to do an entire senior session in one location, but Gage Park has so much to offer that it was a nice challenge to get creative and capture an entire session within the confines of one location that we use quite often. We really got to explore the park, and before we knew it, the session was over. Maddy is a beautiful young lady; great smile. She's friendly, smart, and just a lot of fun to photograph. I really loved the photos we got in the Rose Garden itself. Maddy was wearing a pink top, and some of my favorite images were with the sunset hitting her hair and the pink roses in the background. Interview with Julian Ferrer - Osage City Class of 2027 - Osage County's Best Senior Portraits

Julian was an awesome senior to photograph! We started out at Four Corners near Scranton, then headed to Osage County Fishing Lake before finishing up in downtown Osage City. He was super photogenic, had a great smile and expressions, and was just really easy to photograph. He was personable, relaxed, and made the whole session a lot of fun. I loved how naturally everything came together. By the time we got to Osage City, the sun was sitting right on the horizon and the golden hour light was absolutely amazing. The colors were so rich, the weather was beautiful, and we had a great time walking around downtown and creating some really great images. I feel like we were able to capture Julian's personality while also creating images that really flattered him. Cassie and Brandon's amazing day! The Beacon Wedding Venue - Topeka Wedding Photography

Brandon and Cassie were married last Saturday at The Beacon in Topeka, and what a beautiful day it was! The Beacon is such a classic, historic venue, and it made the perfect backdrop for their wedding. It was the last really hot day of summer before all the cool weather moved in, so we stayed inside the entire time. Honestly, though, with a building this beautiful, we never once wished we were outside. The lighting was amazing, there were so many different rooms and looks to work with, and the architecture was just gorgeous. One of my favorite moments was photographing Cassie on the huge grand staircase on the lower level, showing off her long train. It was absolutely stunning. And then there were the tears! I joked with Brandon and Cassie about how many happy emotions were bubbling over throughout the day. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Interview with Riley Mohler - Silver Lake High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I’ve been photographing Riley and her family since she was little, so getting to photograph her senior pictures was pretty special. We had an amazing session at Gage Park, and Riley was absolutely fantastic in front of the camera. She is super photogenic, has tons of confidence, and has a great smile and expression. She’s also just one of those people who is really easy to photograph because she’s so personable and completely natural in front of the camera. And I have to say, I loved her hairstyle for the session! Riley is a softball player and will be continuing to play in college, so of course we had to work some of that into her senior session. We had a lot of fun moving around H. Park and getting a great mix of softball photos, natural smiles, and some more dramatic looks. Interview with Brek Wahlmeier - Hayden High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had a great time photographing Brek for his senior pictures! We started off at the natatorium, where we got some really awesome and dramatic swimming photos. From there, we headed to the tennis courts at Hayden High School, where Brek goes to school. We were able to get some really cool shots there, both dramatic and fun. Brek was a cool guy, had a great smile, and was willing to try anything we wanted to do. After the tennis courts, we headed downtown and got some photos on top of a parking garage, along with a spot that gave us lots of variety. Maddie was such a sweet girl and just an absolute pleasure to photograph. Basketball is a huge part of her life, and she has committed to play basketball at K-State after she graduates, which is pretty awesome. We had a lot of fun with her senior session because she brought a really cool variety of outfits. Every outfit gave us a completely different look, and we were able to get some really great images downtown before heading out to a more country setting. Maddie was just really easy to photograph. She had a great smile, great expressions, and honestly, I don't think she has a bad angle. By the time we got out to the country, the skies were just incredible.
