Get to know Kevin and Marcy! Relationship Spotlight!!!

We are a photography blog HOWEVER I recently started interviewing couples about their relationship. This has been a fun and educational and heartwarming experience. Getting a small insight into other couples has been fun to see and I hope of some value to you, the reader. Today’s spotlight is Kevin and Marcy. Enjoy!

T.H. Peterson: What are your ages? Marcy: 46 and 45

T.H. Peterson: How long have you been married or been together
Marcy: 12 years

T.H. Peterson: How did you meet?
Marcy: We met at a Country bar in our 20s...we briefly dated....but were on very different paths at that time in our lives.  We met again almost 15 years later...both divorced...the rest is just history.

T.H. Peterson: What were your first impressions of each other?
Marcy: I thought he was dreamy
He thought I was crazy

T.H. Peterson: Describe your relationship in one word.
Marcy: Complimentary

T.H. Peterson: What have been some of the best moments of your marriage?
Marcy: We've raised a blended family of 4, yes 4 daughters..each 3 years apart.
We've started and run a Rodeo company.
We are partners and business owners, together.
Watching our kids follow their Rodeo and Volleyball dreams.

T.H. Peterson: How have you learned to effectively resolve conflict?
Marcy: We don't talk at each anymore...we talk to listen to each other. We just really don't sweat the small stuff..and... WE LAUGH A LOT!

T.H. Peterson: What are some things that have helped keep your relationship strong?
Marcy: I know his strengths and he knows mine.  We've learned to take a back seat to each other when necessary. We don't exploit the others weaknesses.

T.H. Peterson: What are some ways you are alike and different?
Marcy: Alike..... We are Incredibly passionate and driven people.   We don't rest a lot.
Different...I'm impatient...he's methodical. He's very good with $, I'm good with people.

T.H. Peterson: Advice you'd give to yourself when you were first dating your significant other?
Marcy: Chill...chill...chill...

T.H. Peterson: Tell us something funny or inspiring that happened in your relationship.
Marcy: He sent me a singing valentine to work...he LOVES to embarrass me.   There's always a surprise coming. 

T.H. Peterson: Give one single piece of advice that others might benefit from.
Marcy: Marry your best friend...not the aesthetically pleasing one.  Marry the one who makes you laugh.  That's what gets you through!

Gabby's senior session was an absolute blast! From the moment we met, I felt like we clicked instantly—she's just that cool. She’s creative, artistic, and has such a fun, genuine personality. Knox's newborn session - Interview with mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Meet Knox – the sweetest little guy! During his newborn session, he was such a joy to photograph. We used several adorable props and backdrops, and Knox gave us a little smile... basically we gushed over him! His expressions were so precious, showing off his personality even at such a young age. Lainey's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

This was a very special session. Miss Lainey is so tiny and beautiful and her mommy and daddy are absolutely in love! She is so sweet. Mom and dad had a few ideas, including posing her with dad's BDUs from when he was in the Army. Those were really special. Here are a few of our favorites from the session! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Lainey? Aubrey: How perfect and beautiful she was. That she is the final piece to our family.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Aubrey: We decided we wanted a Name that started L. Lainey’s dad would give lists of L names to me and I was never set on any of them. We almost decided to go with something different than L. I asked Chris his opinion of Lainey and he told me that he thought of that name recently but was done with getting turned down on all the lists of names he had came up with. That’s how we came up with Lainey. Jean is Lainey’s middle name and she gets that from her Mami (grandma) on her mother’s side....

How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Lauren and Cole’s session at KU was so special—not just because it’s where they graduated, but because their connection made every shot effortless. I had the privilege of photographing Lauren’s senior portraits in high school, so it was amazing to capture this new chapter for her and Cole. Interview with Ella Bolan - Silver Lake Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Ella, a senior from Silver Lake High School, was such a joy to photograph! She’s super photogenic and brought so much energy to her session. Ella is a talented athlete, playing basketball, volleyball, and running track, and it’s easy to see her confidence shine through. We started her session in the studio, capturing some stunning shots, and then braved the snow for a few outdoor photos that turned out amazing. I recently had the joy of photographing an adorable baby named Forrest. He was so sweet, and his expressions could melt anyone’s heart. His mom was completely head over heels for him, and it was easy to see why. We set up a variety of different scenes to capture his cuteness, and he looked precious in every single one. From soft, cozy blankets to playful props, Forrest’s personality shined through in every photo. It was such a fun session, and I loved seeing the bond between Forrest and his mom. Welcoming baby Ruby into the studio was such a joy! She was the sweetest little model, so peaceful and content throughout her session.
