Interview with Bridge Turnbow - Hayden High Class of 2024 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Great shoot with Bridge! We did these at sunrise, and the sky was beautiful! Bridge did great despite not feeling all that well but he's a trooper! I love the locations we went to and the looks we got! The whole session was great and the colors of the fall foliage was at it's peak, I believe so we really lucked out! Thankful for the opportunity to make these for Bridge. He was fun to hang out with! These are some of my favorites! Check it out!

T.H. Peterson: How's your senior year going?

Bridge: Alright.

T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school? Bridge: Washburn Tech

T.H. P.: What would your dream job be?

Bridge: A professional athlete.

T.H. P.: What classes are you glad to be done with?

Bridge: Speech and English

T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us?

Bridge: It was really laid back. You never pushed me to do anything that I didn't want to.

T.H. P.: What is your superpower?

Bridge: (Laughing) "Self destruction."  Actually,  it's my dark humor.

T.H. P.: What are your earliest memories playing baseball and football?

Bridge: I love baseball, but I still vividly remember not wanting to play my 1st Tball game at age 3. It's also funny, I think I was permanently scarred when they tried to have me catch. Coach pitched the ball, and it bounced off my face mask. This is still the only position I don't play.  Football was really fun from the start. I was always so small that I just rammed into the 1st guy I saw knocking them down. In 2nd grade tackle, I was really impressed with our 1st championship trophy, which looked like a Lombardi. That was pretty cool. 

T.H. P.: Who is your favorite pro ball player?

Bridge: Patrick Mahomes and

Bobby Witt Jr. Two greats.

T.H. P.: What's your biggest pet peeve when it comes to sports?

Bridge: When players don't put in the work. I always made sure I was 1st on the practice field so that I could be sure that kids were not slacking off.

T.H. P.: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

Bridge: (Laughing) I'm not as tired as I look.

Interview with Lauryn Gilfillan - Seaman High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Lauryn is one of the coolest seniors I’ve ever met. From the moment we started her session, I could tell she was completely herself—funny, creative, and so much fun to be around. We started downtown in Topeka, and she even brought a Funko Pop of herself, which made for some awesome and unique pictures. I wanted to make sure I captured her personality because she’s so colorful and full of life, and I think we nailed it! We also took pictures at the Cyrus Hotel, where she totally rocked the modern and classy vibe. After that, we ended at the Capitol, and the photos there turned out absolutely beautiful. Collier - Rees Family on the Farm - Beautiful Generation Session - Topeka's Best Family Photographers

Photographing the Rees and Collier families is always a joy, and their recent generational session was no exception. We gathered at mom and dad’s family farm, where the kids grew up—a stunning countryside backdrop complete with a red barn and grazing horses. It was the perfect setting to celebrate their family’s love and history. The session was filled with smiles and laughter, with the kids stealing the show with their adorable grins. Molly was amazing to photograph! She’s a senior at Washburn Rural High School, Class of 2025, and she was so beautiful and natural in front of the camera. We started her session with some fall portraits at sunset, and the colors were just perfect. The golden light made everything look magical, and Molly’s smile made every photo stand out. She was super easygoing, which made the session so much fun. After sunset, we headed downtown to Topeka for some cool nighttime shots. We ended up on top of a parking garage that had an awesome view of the city skyline. The lights of the city in the background made the photos look incredible. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown ...

Madison was such a blast to photograph! She’s super fun and full of energy, and her smile made every picture look amazing. We started her session downtown, then went to Ward-Meade Park, and ended near the Governor's Mansion at sunset. The golden hour lighting was so pretty, and it made her photos look magical. A proud Taylor Swift fan, Madison wanted to incorporate her love for the iconic artist into the session.  She made the whole session so fun, and I’m so happy with how the pictures came out. Photographing Kaitlynn’s sweet 16 at Shawnee Lake was such a special experience. I’ve been taking her pictures since she was little, so it was amazing to see how much she’s grown up! The setting sun made everything look beautiful, and her outfits were perfect. She brought smoke bombs and balloons, which made the photos even more fun and colorful. Kaitlynn looked so natural in front of the camera. She’s always been photogenic, and she really shined in this session. It’s hard to believe she’s already 16! Happy birthday Camille! First Year Photo Shoot - Cake Smash - Topeka's Best Baby Photographers

Camille’s first birthday cake smash was such a joy to photograph! We kicked off the session with some Christmas-themed photos, and she was all smiles, showing off so much personality. Camille was an absolute natural in front of the camera – she just lit up the room. Her expressions were priceless, and she made every shot a keeper! Once we moved on to the cake smash, things got even more fun! Camille went right for the cake with a curious look and then big, happy giggles as she dug in. It was adorable to see her tiny hands exploring the frosting and her face lighting up with each bite. Grand Teton Wedding - Beautiful fall wedding on the lake - Matt and Alena say I do!

In Sept, I packed up my camera and hit the road to Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park for a wedding that was really close to my heart. This wasn't just any wedding—it was for my old friend, Matt, and his beautiful bride, Alena. Matt isn’t just a friend; he’s one of the first photographers I ever trained, and he worked with me way back when. He’s a genuinely nice guy, and I always knew he deserved someone special. After spending just a short time around Alena, it was clear to me that she’s his soulmate. They’re absolutely perfect together. The trip itself was an adventure. My son, Moses, came along for the ride, and it took us two days to get there. We couldn’t have timed it better—the aspens were at their peak, with bright golden leaves that covered the landscape like a painting. I had an awesome time photographing Connor, a senior from Washburn Rural, who’s got such a fun personality and isn’t afraid to be himself. We started the session on the track to capture his love for running, where he just lit up, making jokes and not taking himself too seriously. The setting sun hit just right, casting that warm golden-hour glow over everything. Connor was full of energy, laughing and showing off his unique style, which made for some pretty great shots. After the track, we headed to a pond out back to capture Connor doing something else he loves: fishing. The pond was surrounded by tall grass that looked amazing in the sunset light. Connor seemed totally at peace, just enjoying the moment and cracking a few jokes here and there.
