Interview with Ainsley Thompson - Class of 2024 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Ainsley was one of the most interesting people I've ever photographed. We had lots of ideas to get through but I knew that these were supposed to really exude drama and art and emotion and I love the end results! I wanted to use light and shadows to really accentuate how truly unique Ainsley is. I loved the choice of outfits and the hair and just everything about the session. These are some of our favorites! T.H. Peterson: What are you enjoying most about your senior year?

Ainsley: Being able to play D&D with my friends. 

T.H. P.: What are your plans for after high school? 

Ainsley: Go to KU.

T.H. P.: What would be your dream job?

Ainsley: I don't know for sure, but something that relates to my hobbies.

Lauryn is one of the coolest seniors I’ve ever met. From the moment we started her session, I could tell she was completely herself—funny, creative, and so much fun to be around. Interview with Zach Oswald - Lebo High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the pleasure of photographing Zach, a senior from Lebo, Kansas, Class of 2025. We split his session into two parts to capture everything that makes him unique. The first session was all about his sports and some fun shots downtown. For the second, we headed to a gorgeous country property just outside of Lebo, and it couldn’t have been a better setting. The fall colors during the second session were absolutely stunning, making every photo feel warm and vibrant. Photographing Kaitlynn’s sweet 16 at Shawnee Lake was such a special experience. I’ve been taking her pictures since she was little, so it was amazing to see how much she’s grown up! The setting sun made everything look beautiful, and her outfits were perfect. She brought smoke bombs and balloons, which made the photos even more fun and colorful. Kaitlynn looked so natural in front of the camera. She’s always been photogenic, and she really shined in this session. It’s hard to believe she’s already 16! Interview with Molly Worley - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Molly was amazing to photograph! She’s a senior at Washburn Rural High School, Class of 2025, and she was so beautiful and natural in front of the camera. We started her session with some fall portraits at sunset, and the colors were just perfect. The golden light made everything look magical, and Molly’s smile made every photo stand out. She was super easygoing, which made the session so much fun. After sunset, we headed downtown to Topeka for some cool nighttime shots. We ended up on top of a parking garage that had an awesome view of the city skyline. The lights of the city in the background made the photos look incredible. How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Interview with Aubrey Richman - Lyndon High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had the best time photographing Aubrey from Lyndon High School for her senior session! We kicked things off in downtown Topeka, where Aubrey brought tons of energy and personality to every shot. She showcased her cheerleading skills, along with her love for volleyball, and her joy was contagious. Her beautiful smile lit up every scene, and it was so easy to capture her bright spirit. The weather was amazing, with clear skies and a perfect golden hour glow that made everything even better. As the sun began to set, we made our way to the Governor's Mansion, where the light was absolutely stunning. The final shots by the Kansas River were my favorites of the whole session. The soft colors from the sunset reflected on the water, adding a warm, natural touch to every photo. Interview with Connor Olsen - Washburn Rural Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

I had an awesome time photographing Connor, a senior from Washburn Rural, who’s got such a fun personality and isn’t afraid to be himself. We started the session on the track to capture his love for running, where he just lit up, making jokes and not taking himself too seriously. The setting sun hit just right, casting that warm golden-hour glow over everything. Connor was full of energy, laughing and showing off his unique style, which made for some pretty great shots. After the track, we headed to a pond out back to capture Connor doing something else he loves: fishing. The pond was surrounded by tall grass that looked amazing in the sunset light. Connor seemed totally at peace, just enjoying the moment and cracking a few jokes here and there. Grand Teton Wedding - Beautiful fall wedding on the lake - Matt and Alena say I do!

In Sept, I packed up my camera and hit the road to Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park for a wedding that was really close to my heart. This wasn't just any wedding—it was for my old friend, Matt, and his beautiful bride, Alena. Matt isn’t just a friend; he’s one of the first photographers I ever trained, and he worked with me way back when. He’s a genuinely nice guy, and I always knew he deserved someone special. After spending just a short time around Alena, it was clear to me that she’s his soulmate. They’re absolutely perfect together. The trip itself was an adventure. My son, Moses, came along for the ride, and it took us two days to get there. We couldn’t have timed it better—the aspens were at their peak, with bright golden leaves that covered the landscape like a painting. Bryer's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

This week, I had the chance to photograph the sweetest little guy in our studio: baby Bryer. From the moment he arrived, he had this calm and curious vibe, just looking around and taking everything in. Bryer barely fussed, making it so easy to capture his adorable expressions, from wide-eyed stares to the cutest little smiles. He’s already got a special charm that made each photo feel unique. Bryer’s big brother, a lively toddler, joined in for some shots, and their connection was heartwarming. You could see the bond between them, with big brother being curious and gentle. Mom and Dad were absolutely smitten with both their boys and beamed through the whole session. Happy birthday Camille! First Year Photo Shoot - Cake Smash - Topeka's Best Baby Photographers

Camille’s first birthday cake smash was such a joy to photograph! We kicked off the session with some Christmas-themed photos, and she was all smiles, showing off so much personality. Camille was an absolute natural in front of the camera – she just lit up the room. Her expressions were priceless, and she made every shot a keeper! Once we moved on to the cake smash, things got even more fun! Camille went right for the cake with a curious look and then big, happy giggles as she dug in. It was adorable to see her tiny hands exploring the frosting and her face lighting up with each bite.
