Check out my assistant Sarah's family! Awesome generation portrait session - Topeka's Best Family Photographers


Recently, we photographed Sarah, my assistant (of many years) she’s incredible! Always professional, friendly and fun to be around. I asked her to do a write up for her blog post. Here’s what she wrote:


My first experience with T.H. Peterson Photography was 8 years ago. I saw an add for his spring mini sessions and thought it would be a perfect fit for my husband (who hates photos) and my four small kids. That photo shoot resulted in amazing pictures and also a job for me!


I’m Sarah, one of Tommy’s photo assistants and this spring my extended family met Tommy at Osage lake for our family photo shoot. This session, like every session we had with Tommy and his team, was easy, relaxed, quick and tons of fun! As someone who is much more comfortable behind the camera than in front of it-Tommy and his assistants always make me and my whole family feel comfortable and confident. I’m happy and proud to call T.H. Peterson my photographer, my employer and my friend.

Now this was a special session! It's not often we photograph multiples for newborn sessions but these little girls were just perfect and despite them being born several months ago, because they were so premature they photographed just like brand new newborns! Popkess family at Ward Meade - Beautiful Spring Mini Session - Topeka's Best Family Photographers

We had the most absolutely perfect day for the Popkess family's spring session at Ward Meade. Sadly the tulips are all gone however the lush greenery made a perfect backdrop anywhere we posed this adorable family! As usual with families with littles the session is really more about them and Autumn just had the cutest smile and expressions. Made our time with them so much fun! How to Prepare for a Photo Session - Topeka's Best Family Portrait Photographers

Select outfits that will make for a timeless portrait. Choose practical clothing items, and keep the location and time of year in mind.  Select clothing items and accessories that are not too distracting or that you will have to adjust often during the session (think long necklaces or ruffled tops on a windy day).  Keep in mind the weather, wind speed, and humidity/chance of rain.  If you have littles, bring them some snacks to help give them incentives during the session.  This can help us to get kids to cooperate and make or break a session.  If it is windy, wear your hair up.  Trimming your bangs/hair slightly to keep them out of your eyes is a great idea, too! Use product like mousse, gel, pomade, and hairspray to tame your mane!    Pick shoes that will be easy to walk in at the location of the session.  For example, high heels are not recommended for sunflower shoots, but would look great in an urban/downtown setting.  Bring an extra jacket or cardigan to th

Diego's newborn session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Newborn Photographers

What a beautiful baby boy and it was great to have his whole family right there with him as we did this session. These are some of our favorites! Enjoy! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Diego? Destrie: I thought he was so cute and was also in total shock because I just had another baby! T.H. P.: How did you come up with his name? Destrie: I have always loved the name Diego, and so I knew when I had a second boy he would have that name. T.H. P.: What does big bro think? Destrie: His brother is in total awe of him. Always checking on him and making sure to say “what mister” anytime he cries.  T.H. P.: What is something you liked about your session with us? Declan's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

What a handsome little guy! I loved photographing Declan and his session was just perfect! I especially loved capturing the details like his spikey hair. Totally adorable! Hanna, who is a long time client, has recently begun helping us with newborns and it's been a huge blessing not only to our business but to her as well as she has had an opportunity to grow as a photographer herself and practice on getting better at wrapping and posing babies. She is growing by leaps and bounds and I am so thankful to have her on our team! She's someone I always appreciate having around! What a sweet baby! We had a wonderful time with Kayson and his mom and dad. They are so proud of him and you can tell they are going to raise him right and give him lots of love his whole life. He is a beautiful baby and I am so thankful for the session we got to create for him. Enjoy! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Kayson? Jaymee: When we first saw him we thought what an absolute blessing he was and then look at all that hair!  T.H. P.: How did you come up with his name? Jaymee: It's a name that's not heard very often that we could spell a unique way.  T.H. P.: Who does he look like? Jaymee: For sure his dad.  T.H. Cove's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Cove was the sweetest little girl. She was so mellow and easy to photograph. She was just the cutest baby. It was a lot of fun coming up with poses for her and getting detail shots and images of her with her brother and mom! These are just some of our favorites!! Thanks for checking out Cove's session. So sweet! T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Cove? Sierra: Well, I cried like a baby myself. During our first moments together, she just stared at me and was so calm, I couldn’t have fallen more in love.  T.H. P.: How did you come up with her name? Sierra: Her big brothers name is Cash, so I knew I wanted another one syllable name. When I stumbled upon Cove and said the names together, it was an instant yes. She’s already gotten the nickname of Coco as well, which is so cute.  T.H. P.: What is life like with a new baby in the house? Sierra: It honestly has been a huge adjustment, but way smoother than I had imagined. Cash is 5 and he’s been super helpful and sweet
