Interview with Kennady Gatewood - Seaman High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Kennedy's senior session was one of those sessions that reminds me why I love photographing seniors so much. She attends Seaman High School, and from the moment we started, she was absolutely incredible in front of the camera. Her outfits were stunning, and she has such a vibrant personality that every location felt completely different. We ended up doing a longer senior sessions, which isn't something we do very often, but it gave us the opportunity to visit several different locations and create an amazing amount of variety. Instead of spending a long time in one place, we kept moving, and every stop gave us something new and unique.

My favorite part of the session was our trip to Lake Wabaunsee. We photographed at the waterfall, the flooded road, and the beach, and every single location seemed to give us another incredible backdrop. The sunset and skies that evening were absolutely beautiful, and it felt like every few minutes we were creating another favorite image. Kennedy made my job easy because she was so confident and natural in front of the camera. Whether I asked her to smile, look serious, or simply walk toward the camera, she completely nailed every pose and expression.

By the end of the evening, I don't know who was more excited about the photos—Kennedy and her family or me. It was one of those sessions where everything just came together perfectly. She looks like a model straight off of a magazine cover. I'm so thankful they chose the extended session because it gave us the freedom to be creative and capture a collection of images that feels truly one of a kind. I can't wait to photograph her again later this year and create even more memories together.

T.H. Peterson: What are your plans after high school?
Kennady: I plan to go to Pitt State for nursing/pre-med and hopefully get into medical school.

T.H. P.: What kind of student are you?
Kennady: I'm the kind of student who is very social and talks a lot, but I still get my work done.
T.H. P.: What class are you looking forward to your senior year?
Kennady: I'm looking forward to the science classes I'm taking during my senior year.
T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?
Kennady: I liked how you and your helper complimented me and made me feel confident during my session.
T.H. P.: What makes you feel confident?
Kennady: Being complimented makes me feel confident.
T.H. P.: What was the last movie you saw, and what did you think?
Kennady: Project Hail Mary was the last movie I saw, and I thought it was really good. It reminded me a lot of Interstellar.
T.H. P.: Describe your fashion sense with a song or movie title.
Kennady: Gilmore Girls.
T.H. P.: What's on your playlist that you listen to every day?
Kennady: I listen to a lot of Mac Miller and Lana Del Rey.

T.H. P.: If you could invest an hour a day working on a skill, what would you do?
Kennady: I would work on my studying skills and staying focused.

T.H. P.: What's the first thought you have every morning after waking up?
Kennady: I think about what I'm most excited for that day.
