Interview with Lauryn Gilfillan - Seaman High Class of 2025 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Lauryn is one of the coolest seniors I’ve ever met. From the moment we started her session, I could tell she was completely herself—funny, creative, and so much fun to be around. We started downtown in Topeka, and she even brought a Funko Pop of herself, which made for some awesome and unique pictures. I wanted to make sure I captured her personality because she’s so colorful and full of life, and I think we nailed it! We also took pictures at the Cyrus Hotel, where she totally rocked the modern and classy vibe. After that, we ended at the Capitol, and the photos there turned out absolutely beautiful. Each spot showed a different side of her personality, and I love how it all came together. Check out some of my favorite shots from her session—they’re amazing!

T.H. Peterson: What classes are you enjoying most this year?
Lauryn: I really enjoy graphic design and jewelry because there’s a lot more time to work on projects by myself while probably watching Wallace and Gromit.

T.H. P.: What is your dream job?

Lauryn: My dream job, I can’t say because Ashley said I can’t but my plan B is I really want to go into advertising and creative writing; specifically copywriting or some kind of graphic design job.

T.H. P.: What are your plans after high school?

Lauryn: My plans after high school are to go straight into college, possibly Pitt State. I want to get it done because if I took a gap year it would take a lot for me to get back into it. I plan on majoring in a multimedia communications degree because it’s great for even a regular 9-5 business job.

T.H. P.: Use the letters of your name to describe yourself?

Lauryn: Laughing, Amiable, Ultra, Radical, Yawning, Neat

T.H. P.: How long have you bowled? Favorite memories?

Lauryn: I’ve bowled for 4 years and last year when we were driving home from regionals, we got ice cream and then our coach let us eat in the van home. For whatever reason we found everything hilarious after that. There was another time when a teammate got his fingers stuck in someone else’s ball and it flew straight into the ceiling.

T.H. P.: How many times you seen Big Lebowski? What do you love about it so much?

Lauryn: I’ve really only seen the Big Lebowski about three times. It’s more a fun movie to reminisce on with my parents and joke about. Though I do like how the movie is all nonchalant with so many small details, I prefer him in Tron and R.I.P.D. (Though some won’t agree with me).

T.H. P.: What movie reminds you of your childhood?

Lauryn: If I had to choose one movie, it would be the 2005 “King Kong.” When we were younger we’d turn up the surround sound all the way so when the dinosaur fight scene would come on we could feel it. We also loved to do that chest beating thing like a gorilla.

T.H. P.: Something you liked about your session with us?

Lauryn: I loved that you guys were so easy-going and fun. It made it easier for me to pose comfortably around you guys and you were so creative with not just the poses but the lighting and everything too.

T.H. P.: Favorite place to eat? What do you get?  Lauryn: My favorite place to eat is HuHot. Granted, almost every time we order it in, they get it terribly wrong. But it’s so good when we go there or when they get it right. Especially with some pineapple and coconut shavings. A close second is KiKu.
T.H. P.: First thought you have when you wake up? Lauryn: “Let’s get going.” Or “I wonder how badly Lillie beat me in iMessage games.”
