Ellison's Adorable Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers


We had one of the best newborn sessions with Ms. Ellison Lyn, and she was such a great baby!  She was so quiet and calm during the entire session, we never heard her cry once!  She settled right in and went to sleep and we were able to get some adorable portraits of her that mom and dad will cherish forever!  We were able to get some great family pictures, too!  What a sweet little ray of sunshine!  Here are some of our favorites from Ellison’s shoot!

T.H. Peterson: How did you find out you were going to have a baby and what was your guys' first thought?

Colleen: Nick and I both started working out and eating better in an attempt to lose weight. After a few weeks of working out I realized I missed my cycle. I blamed it on the changes from working out. A week later I took a pregnancy test just to be sure, and found out it wasn't the excessive exercise. We were having a baby 🙂  We were both surprised and caught off guard but excited nonetheless.

T.H. P.: What was your first thought when you found out you were having a girl? 

Colleen: We have custody of my step-son, so finding out we were having a girl was exciting. Knowing we would get to do the girly stuff too lol.

T.H. P.: Who picked the name Ellison and does her name have any significance?

Colleen: We tossed around numerous name ideas and one day we both made a list of our top names and sent them to each other. We both had Ellis on the list. After a little while, we decided to change it to Ellison to make it a little more feminine. There is no specific significance to her name, just something we liked and was unique.

T.H. P.: What was your labor and delivery like?

Colleen: LONG! I was there for 27 hours before Ellison made her appearance. I was lucky and did not have any complications or anything like that so I am grateful for that aspect of it.

T.H. P.: What was your favorite part of your session with us?

Colleen: You guys always do an amazing job with keeping the sessions fun and engaging. My maternity session and the newborn session were both amazing. We will definitely be back for family photos/etc in the future.  Thank you for capturing the once in a lifetime photos for us!

Lorren’s senior session was such a fun one! We started the morning at the sunflower fields at Shively Farms, and we could not have asked for a better morning. Bre and Trent's Big Wedding Day - St John Vianney Church - Maple Hill, KS - Topeka Weddings

Bre and Trent’s wedding day was such a beautiful celebration. They were married at St. John Vianney Church in St. Marys, a church well known for its beautiful Latin Mass. The day began with them getting ready separately at their family’s homes, so they didn’t see each other before the ceremony. The traditional Catholic ceremony was absolutely beautiful and filled with so many emotions. I didn’t realize until later that Bre and Trent have been together since high school, which made the day even more special. After the ceremony, we headed to Shawnee Lake and Reynolds Lodge for some beautiful portraits. I absolutely love photographing at Reynolds Lodge because all of the beautiful window light makes it such an amazing place for photography. Interview with Ean Winsor - Holton High School Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

When Ean stepped out of his vehicle, I was pretty excited because this is a BIG dude! As a football player at Holton High School, he has the kind of stature that really stands out, and he absolutely towered over us. I knew we could make some really tough-looking images of him, and we definitely did our best to capture that side of him. But it didn't take long to realize that underneath that big football-player exterior is a giant teddy bear. Ean is such a sweet, friendly, and considerate young man, and I wanted to make sure we captured that side of him too. We started his session on the football field and talked a little about football and his great team at Holton High School. Interview with Haven Ellenburg - Shawnee Heights High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Haven's senior session was one of those evenings where everything just came together. We started at Shawnee Heights High School on the softball field since that's where she's spent so much of her time. She was so easy to photograph from the beginning. She has a GREAT smile, a fun personality, and she's completely comfortable in front of the camera. Her mom came along too, and it was fun having her there cheering Haven on and getting excited every time we found another great spot. After the ball field, we made our way to the Governor's Mansion and then finished the evening at Kaw River Park. The sunset could not have been any better. The sky looked almost unreal and the water made the perfect backdrop for her portraits. We spent the evening talking about school,  plans after graduation, and just enjoying the beautiful weather. Interview with Addy Crouch - Shawnee Heights Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

We had so much fun photographing Addy for her senior portraits! We started at Shawnee Heights High School with some cheer photos, and she absolutely crushed them. She nailed every jump and pose, which was honestly impressive because we usually have to repeat a few of those shots to get just the right one. Mom mentioned that Addy also dances, and that definitely made sense once we started taking photos. She was so natural in front of the camera and had the sweetest smiles and expressions from the very beginning. After SHHS, we headed over to Iliff Commons for the rest of her session. As we spent more time together, we got to see more of Addy's personality come out. She's a funny girl, made us smile. Nora's Newborn Session - Interview with Mom - Topeka's Best Newborn Photographers

Nora was such a beautiful little girl, and she had the sweetest little faces throughout her newborn session. She was a little fussy when we first started, but after a quick diaper change, she completely passed out and was ready to go. From that point on, she was an absolute dream to photograph. Nora gave us so many sweet expressions and posed perfectly for her photos. I especially loved all the little details, from her tiny hands to the way she curled up and settled into each pose. She was such a great little model, and we were able to capture some beautiful memories of this very special time for her family. T.H. Peterson: What did you think when you first saw Nora? Interview with Jared Heuertz - Oskaloosa High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Jared was such a fun senior to photograph! We actually photographed him during a couple of different sessions, and each one gave us something completely different. We started early one morning at Crooked Post Winery where he works. There we were treated to a beautiful sunrise and some awesome weather. The vineyard made the perfect backdrop for his session, and from there we headed to the lake and then to his house, finding awesome locations and opportunities for photos everywhere we went. We finished up with some pictures with his dogs; the perfect way to end the morning! For his second session, we headed to his high school to capture some of the things that are a huge part of Jared's life: football and baseball. Jared puts a ton of time and energy into his athletics, so getting those photos around his school and on the field was really important. Interview with Dawson Wittman - Hayden High Class of 2027 - Topeka's Best Senior Portraits

Dawson's session was one for the books! He is super nice, very friendly, and has a great smile and personality. We started his senior session in NOTO, where we found lots of colorful backdrops and fun spots throughout. From there, we headed over to Ward Meade Park and were able to create so many cool images. The warm glow of the sun made an amazing backdrop and really added something special to his photos. We finished the evening at Shawnee Lake, where we captured some beautiful images on the water with the setting sun behind him. The sun was huge, warm, and absolutely breathtaking! Keegan is such a cool girl, and we had an absolutely perfect morning for her senior session at Osage County Fishing Lake. We started at sunrise, and the light coming up over the tree line and reflecting across the water was just beautiful. Keegan has a great smile, and she made it so easy to capture some really natural, genuine expressions. Her mom and dad came along too, and they were so much fun to hang out with. Before we knew it, the session was over! We finished up at the studio and grabbed a few more portraits there. I loved Keegan’s outfit and her cowgirl hat, and the whole session had this natural, countryside feel that really fit her personality. Zach and Kate's Engagement Session - Ted Ensley Gardens at Shawnee Lake at Sunset - Topeka Wedding Photographer

Zach and Kate were so much fun to photograph. We met up at Ted Ensley Gardens at Shawnee Lake last Saturday for their engagement session, and after how warm it had been during the day, I was honestly a little worried about how the evening was going to feel. But it ended up being perfect. These two have such great chemistry that I don't think they even noticed the heat. They were just completely comfortable with each other, laughing, smiling, and having a good time. They have that kind of connection where you can tell they've been together for a while and are just really happy being around each other. And they're both so photogenic, which certainly made my job pretty easy. There were a few things that really stood out to me during their session. Their car was awesome, so we had to work that into a few of the photos, and I really liked how those turned out.
